So guys, this is what happened, in a nutshell. Not verbatim.
When Petey signed his new deal Miller kinda took it personal that it was so much more than his, he was always hard on Petey but he took it to another level because he felt like he needed to hold Petey to a certain standard based on his contract. He was relentless on the kid, apparently.
Not only is that not his job, to hold another player to a contract standard, it got to the point where it was outright abusive. You can hold a player to on-ice standards (missed assignment/laziness), but it ends there player vs player. That's when Tocchet stepped in and said "enough". Miller then had it out with Tocchet, not a good career move. He was asked to remove himself from the team.
There, that's what I was told from ex-players who kind of dug into the situation. - Pacificgem
Makes sense. Miller is a bully. Better trade him to a team with no big cap hits.

I’ve heard something similar. All pretty strange as the org asked Miller to help hold him accountable . |

He just took it too far and then doubled down on it when he got into a confrontation with Tocchet. Get rid of both of them!! (Petey/Miller) |

Nice kid, Suter, but he needs to be trade for a 3rd or whatever they can get for him. Sasson can do his job. - Pacificgem
Does Sasson kill penalties? I think Suter might be the most used PK forward on the team |

From the outside as a fan this seems extremely plausible based on how things have gone, I tend to believe your source |

If they both get traded, just think of how mad Miller is going to be that Petey's return is so much more than his too |

Makes the most sense to me. Otherwise, if Miller initiated, the team could have put him on IR for mental health reasons under NHL's player assistance program. If team asked him to take some time off due to attitude/behaviour issues, they can't use IR.
Miller was out 10. That could have provided some Cap relief if a legitimate medical issue.

How fu cking petty. As a player, he should want other players to get paid. |

I mean, if what you said is true, then what's really the point of trading Petey? I get the angle of best return/people don't like him... but from this situation – again, if true – Miller's just a bully. |

Still pretty fucked in here.
I think I'll watch the game Wed. They haven't won 3 in-a-row since the 1st week on Nov. |

You trade pouty because he has a bad contract and no trade protection this year |

Everything points towards Miller being a major cancer. If people want Petey traded because his cap hit is too high for his production half way into season 1 of his new contract, fair enough. But get heads out of asses if people feel he is just as guilty as Miller.
It's not Petey being told by vet/leader to back off on a star player who is in his early 20's and playing at an elite level at the time this went down.
It's not Petey being benched multiple times for poor leadership(lazy play, blaming others on the ice, giving up). The benchings have happened multiple times in the last 2 seasons. Miller was doing it under Bruce as well but was never held accountable.
It's not Petey who either left the team for 10 games after being benched, or the other scenario that is even worse, being forced away from the team for 10 games because of his terrible play, leadership, and/or his infighting. On the longest most critical road trip to that point of the season of all times.... that just makes the Miller situation look even worse.
We've seen this team play to it's standard without Miller. Not sure if it was maintainable but none the less, a switch was flipped instantly when he was out. That is telling. If he was in fact forced out by management and that was how the team responded,,, then holy (frank) that speaks of where they are with JT Cancer...
This guy needs to go. It's a devastating loss because we see what will be missing on his power forward abilities and his meanness. His issues are a fkn disaster though.

When he takes a leave of absense for personal reasons, that implies he asked for one. Marijuana REALLY effects the memory with some - neem55
Nope. It just says he’s taking a personal leave. Didn’t say whether he asked or was told. |

Well, for that I can only offer my personal opinion, that and $8.99 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Funny, that saying used to say .50 cents and a cup of coffee, liberal inflation, anyway, I digress.
Two reasons, because guys have taken sides, maybe cleaning both of them out gets rid of any resentment, and two, if Petey doesn't recover from the poop-show that's gone on there, you move him before his trade protection kicks in. |

I did forget that implies might be too big of a word for you, my bad on that one. Personal Leave is something you ask for, when you have a job, just to clarify. The team could suspend him, but leave is on the person taking it. - neem55
If they tried to suspend him it would have been instantly appealed by the players union. He was sent home, they’d paid him roughly 1 million bucks to stay away. They didn’t IR him or anything. He was told to stay home. |

Additional from Gary Mason...
Obviously a lot of interest in my interview with Jim Rutherford. I mentioned that he said it was a possibility the two players could remain with the team for the rest of the season. Because of space, I couldn't include the full quote but I think it's important to pass along ... |

Nothing really supports that. It's a weirdly detailed shot in the dark.
Everyone rallying around Miller to get better including players coaches and staff/management supports he left for personal reasons. If he was forced out, then the mood and statements from the players would have been different. I'm sure Miller's agent wouldnt let them get away with doing that to his client. Not a fkn chance. Look at the damage it's done to his rep.
