Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has acquired defenceman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O'Connor from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Danton Heinen, defenceman Vincent Desharnais, the rights to forward Melvin Fernström and a conditional first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft (acquired from New York Rangers).
Don't get how anything Vancouver received is worth a 1st... |

yeah, both teams essentially traded each other a bunch of crap lol... it's the conditional pick acquired from the rags, but what are the conditions..?
edit: I think the pick is top-13 protected lol |

well, in terms of first-round pick material, they're not so great, although a late-1st rounder basically becomes a 2nd rounder, so from that perspective it makes more sense I guess.
but yeah, the rags will make the playoffs, unless Miller is such a d!ck that he disrupts that locker room even more and they continue to tank...

they play better lately, I think they were making it even without Miller.
tough luck for Vancouver, they're not going anywhere

sounds like they were stuck between a rock and a hard place, as Miller only wanted to be moved to NYR, so the rags took advantage of the situation with the nucks barely having any leverage.
there is still talk about Pettersson potentially being moved, which I don't get since I thought the rift was between him and Miller, and with the latter being gone I assumed things should now be better for them, technically.

perso I would have kept Miller and trade Pettersson.
from what I understand, Miller is not an easy guy to live with, but he's a true leader, a character guy. the complete opposite of Pettersson. good player but not a leader.
not sure you can win if you build arounf the latter, hence he could be on his way out too. |

I get that Miller has more grit and is willing to play hard, as opposed to Pettersson who is more dependent on his skills, but I find that's a bit of a contradiction, good leaders aren't supposed to be that hard to deal with imho... from what I've been hearing, Miller can really be a jerk, which isn't a leadership quality at all.

I'm not talking about their leadership qualities on the ice, I'm talking off the ice.
apparently Pettersson is a loner, always on his phone, don't talk much... that's your captain? I'll take Miller even if he can be a jerk. |

well, same here lol.
good leaders are able to rally guys despite having different perspectives from their teammates, which doesn't sound like Miller at all.

agreed, both do not sound like competent leaders you could depend on to bring your team to another level.

Maybe he should not have been named captain. But that does not mean he was the player to trade.
My understanding from what I have read, Miller is extremely abrasive and kind of a jerk. Yeah, he is a good player, but he seems to be Torts on skates.
Miller was the right person to trade.

I suspect, without proof, that Miller was asked to leave the team earlier this year, or at the very least, to change his demeanor or there would be repercussions (rather leaving for a few weeks on his own accord).
Maybe one day we will find out.
