Well it's not so much blame as to recognize the team did a very good job in the third period generating chances but came up short against one of the, if the not the best goaltender in the NHL.
But just like I mentioned in the blog, they cannot keep falling behind and hoping to win, it's not a recipe for long term success. - Scabeh
WPG was playing with the lead in the 3rd, procteting it. come on Hugo.
also, it was a master class to watch the Jets keep Mtl on the outside. skate all you want, keep the puck all you want, but you stay on the outside.
oh well |

Well there we go Fred.
They should score more than the opposing team to win the game.
How on earth isn't Martin St-Louis applying this basic principle?!? |

I mean his only prior experience was coaching his sons in Pee-Wee so I guess he came in with that Participation is the important part mentality |

Last night you saw the difference between a middle-of-the-pack team and a real contender. Habs need to look at this as an example of where their game needs to be to consistently be one of the best teams int he league.
They are just not there yet, |

True, not much they could do when the Jets decided to play |

It's ok to be scored on first but the consistency and mental toughness is not there for the whole game that's the issue

Demidov where are you? Seems like the newbie effect for Laine and Carrier is over - habs88888
The problem is we are back at 5 vs 5 at having only one scoring line |

Honestly guys, if they score on 1/3 of the great chances they got in the third, we're not talking about how bad they are.
Not that the problems everyone here are mentionning don't exist, we've taken a step back defensively and losing Guhle won't help. - Scabeh

Well Evans wasn't gonna keep a 50 pts scoring pace, which was almost double his career high. Losing Heineman ended up being a big loss because we are still stuck with Pezzetta and his 5 minutes of mistaken prone hockey instead of a guy producing regularely.
More than that, you're double shifting some of your best player, which also hurts one of the team's strenght at their best, which was to roll out 4 lines consistantly with everyone being full on energy.
When Suzuki takes a shift with Evans and you get a faceoff in the offensive zone, you can't send your first line back in.

We had a fairly balanced lineup, Heineman being out kinda forced changes to the bottom 6. Seems to have impacted 5v5 play overall, and missing some extra offence from bottom 6.

you left out the most important part, Dach line is not generating anything 5 on 5 |

Yes, wonder if Laine now wants to stay or does he want to go again. To be honest we are still 2 top 6 players and 2 top dman from being a perennial cup contender but until we are a playoff contender who would want to come |

I’m a big fan of Ghule and what he brings to the game, but I’m starting to genuinely worry about his injury history. In every season in the NHL he’s been hurt now. This one didn’t look great either. Hoping for the best.
Edit: I agree with many above, is any line outside of the Suzuki line going to show up 5 V 5? With the lack of support, Suzuki’s numbers and Caufield’s numbers are even more impressive IMO. |

The other thing is despite the top lines good numbers, is Suzuki a good enough leader to positively influence the other players on the team, something to think about |

They should flip Laine for a first round pick at the deadline…
I don’t believe in that guy. Too slow…. Yes, great shot on the PP but that’s all…
