I said something similar yesterday - I don't think the cracks around Miller start to show for a couple of years. If you're a team with an open - or starting to close window, he makes a lot of sense. If you're a team growing towards or on the verge of opening the window, he doesn't. - Monkeypunk
Also sometimes people just work. You never know. Dubois seems to have had his Richard cut by OV and the Caps or maybe just that this is his last chance to keep making money playing a game. |

Except that you see Miller out around town doing poop with other players all the time. |

Being a good guy and being a good teammate are not synonymous.
But I also admit I have no idea. I just know from the Plymouth beat writer that he was a female genitalia to Rekell, the various Rags beat writers saying he was a Richard to the King and that forced a lot of change and now we have this with Pettersson.
To be fair, nobody from the USDP has ever said anything about him in the negative. |

I’m not saying he’s perfect at all. By all accounts he’s a bit jealous of EP’s contract and not happy that he’s not playing up to it. He also takes it too far sometimes as some former team mates have said. But overall he’s hard on other players because he wants to win. |

Agreed. I heard of a clip of a former Canuck teammate (not sure who) who said he loved Miller, but told him he was being to hard on EP. |

He would kill Nylander.
And he doesn't want to play in Canada anymore (don't blame him).

I guarantee you he absolutely sucks at hockey again in the next couple seasons once the novelty wares off. |

Oh no, if you guys are sending Jewelsie down here, we need a sweetener on the deal. At least a 1st round pick and a grade A prospect.

Have to make the money work and his money works but still cheaper than Rielly. He's a RHD, scores the same as Rielly (at the moment) but over his career better on D. |

If I managed the Canucks and Petterson’s game was suffering because of a bully I’d fire Miller into sun just to get him out of there.
Petterson was shaping up to be one of the best players in the league, 102 points in his third season. |

Which of these are the current Toronto Maple Leafs?

I sort of look at them as the 1st verging on the 2nd. I feel like they have squandered the opening of the window years, and definitely the first couple of open window years . . .so they probably have a couple more open window years before they are in the closing window years which last 2-4 years . . . if you look at the general rebuild models . . .
The Penguins were in contention from 2006 - 2021 - 16 years.
The Capitals were really 2007 - 2021 - or 15 years. I don't understand this year at all or how it's happening and I don't want to talk about it.
The Blackhawks were really only 2008 - 2016 - 9 years. The Hawks challenge seemed to really be that they had too many decent players and had to make a lot of hard decisions on who went and who stayed and it affected their longevity. By 2015 they'd won their third cup and were paying simply too much on the next contracts to Toews and Kane to maintain their competitive balance. Bad news for Leaf fans: it was the equivalent of having 2 $13m players which just made it too hard for them to stay competitive.
Tampa is probably 2013 - present but their window is on the closing side - they probably have a couple of years left where they will be considered a threat. So maybe you call that about a 14 year window.
Even the Bruins - who only won one cup - were basically 2007 - 2023 with a couple of lean years in there as well.
These are teams showing sustainable year-over-year success. The Avs struggled with consistency before 2017 and the Kings were a bit of a flash in the pan.
So a 12 year window is very, very loose and approximate obviously. It's shortened by bad contract decisions and widened by not making panic moves and perhaps accepting a couple of bad years in there here and there. But it does feel that surrounding the acquisition of a franchise player through the draft, that's about where you are. |
