He was on for 2 minutes. Miss Tavares - Drapz
Wouldn't expect that to absolve him of the 3 terrible plays in his first 30 seconds on the ice, but also im mostly just village idiot whispering here... |

Still first in the division. We're missing JT, Knies, and clearly Woll is getting overworked. Not an ideal situation, but they'll bounce back. - Whipper
Wolls not the problem. Team can't (frank)ing score goals. |

And you're not winning in this league if you show up for 11 minutes.
No idea why Berube didn't blender the lines when it was clear the team was sleepwalking through this game. Mix it up ffs. |

Impossible.
Not a good problem to have with over $34m invested in 3 forwards |

Good teams dont have multiple 3 game losing streaks in a month.
But the leafs do.
It would be funny if the sens pass the leafs
Onto the next game. - Fakepartofme
Sure they do. The Vegas Golden Knights lost 4 in a row, managed to win one game, then lost 3 in a row the year they won the cup. I don't think it was in the same month, but Florida had 2 4 game losing streaks and a 3 game losing streak last year. It happens.
It's a long season and injuries happen. Depending on how many and who they affect, the injuries can challenge your depth and all teams suffer from it. The Leafs have been periodically without many of McCabe, Tavares, Knies, Stolarz, Pacioretty and Kampf - just this month.
It's easy to get down on the team - especially when you see them outworked at times - but it's not like Minnesota was dominating them; the game winner was a PP goal scored against them on what I thought was a questionable penalty, but they controlled much of the play in the third.
To your point I don't feel that Matthews or Marner are showing their ability to be game breakers or uncontainable in tight checking games - and that's what we need to see for this team to take the next step in the playoffs. Colorado can rely on MacKinnon to do that and Edmonton can rely on McDavid to do that. We need to see Matthews be that guy in these types of games - especially if he wants to be considered in the same sentence as those two. |

Maybe getting their most experienced star forward, their best power forward, and most experienced reliable goalie back might help? |

sure it would, but all teams have to overcome injuries.
Also I think Stolarz being a beast early on hid some of the issues.

Overcoming injuries is one thing, overcoming a loss of 33% of your top 6 is quite another, can’t expect bottom six guys to take that on and be as effective.
As for the goalies they need their reliable veteran back. This is where young guys with little league experience (not even games) get rattled and play weaker, tightening up the D making them play weaker, hurting the breakouts making the already damaged forwards play weaker. Yes, steady goaltending matters that much. |

I watched the game on PVR after my own hockey game and I thought they hit the iron 3 times - Willy, Matthews and Marner but your right if they score on 1 or 2 (or all 3) of those the game is much different.
Leafs looked flat to me for a lot of that game and the 1st goal would drive me nuts as a goalie - well it does drive me nuts because it happens to me. The rule is block it fully or GTFO of the way. What Matthews did was as much instinct as anything but you aren't blocking or knocking down a full NHL quality shot with the blade of your stick and he should have recognized that.
Oh well not the end of the world, on to the next game still in 1st place so hard to be too upset.

They have 80 more man games lost at this point last year, and have an identical record
They are fine relax
You can’t talk about adding at the TDL alike it makes a difference but gloss over the fact having 250 man games lost is going to hurt a team |

I think we have all been told how easy the fix here is, let the top players continue to be paid at the top of the scale for the entire league while consistently not performing to the level needed for playoff success and get better bottom 6 players to fill that gap.
This is for sure the way the most successful teams and cup winners do it, and it's amazingly easy because those types of bottom 6 players are just sitting there waiting to be signed for league minimum with guaranteed results - it's not a gamble at all.
Like look at all the cups Corey Perry has led teams to - stupid Leafs for not signing him and drafting poorly since the dawn of time.
Trust him bro, he knows and anyone who disagrees is wrong.
