Another way to look at the trade
https://youtu.be/FQ3tAUWryrQ?si=KqDlyGoQZbfYLAKu - WhiskeyMan
Some of what he says makes sense. I just dont like it. I have done a little research on this Pelletier guy and he was over a point per game in the AHL. Someone asked what changed between now and when he was on waivers, perhaps that was his play. If you look at the Flames schedule, the Flames played 18 games between Dec 20th and now. I swore I read he was on waivers 6 weeks ago. Considering he has only played 23 games this season and 18 games have passed. I looked up his game log and he played 17 of those 18 games.
It is fair to say a lot has changed since being waived. Especially if he wasnt on the Flyers radar at that time. Maybe we are overvaluing Farabee and Frost because we are stuck on the fact they were 1st round picks. They arent anymore and the value there does change.

How did the Flyers do well to improve later? - furio16
Well if Pelletier and the 2nd become better players than Farabee and Frost in the future, wouldnt you say they got better in the later? Maybe the correct terminaology should be Flyers did well to potentially improve later? They could in fact bust both player and pick and end up worse.

Guys .. Pelletier is nothing. The 2nd round pick is nothing. This is the first of more moves to come. The Flyers are clearing out the players that are not part of the solution here and accumulating more cap space. That is what this trade is about. |

I don't think you realize just how little defense most top offensive guys like Kucherov, Rantanen, MacKinnon, McJesus, Drai, OV and others play. And TK as well.
There're all near the bottom of the league in defensive impact.
Free your offensive guys to take chances and make plays. Their production should easily offset any defensive shortcomings.
Torts lets TK do whatever the hell he wants, so we know it's actually possible. - Tomahawk
They can’t score on you if you spend your whole shift in the offensive zone.

Torts didn't want Frost/Farabee around anymore.
The act of cutting those guys loose was the goal.
Maximizing the return was not.
It's really just as simple as that. |

I guess the one thing I always question is how long is Torts going to be around? It's obvious he does not like certain players. Is this the norm for the Flyers going forward? Letting the Torts dictate who should be on the team in the past, present and future?
Torts executes such a boring north/south style of hockey w a dump and chase. Are the Flyers going to turn over the keys to his wishes when he decides to hang it up and move into the Flyers C Suite? |

Me, I not bothered by the trade at all unless Briere is finished. Clean house. It's time. I'm tired waiting for mediocre, at best, players to step up. And it's not just these two. Let the purge continue.
And I get the trade. Farabee for someone who has shown he can score, can help Michkov, the most important Flyer since Lindros, with his comfort level adjusting to a new country, plus a possible 5 mil in cap relief if it doesn't work out. Frost for a younger guy with some potential, a second rounder next year, and again, cap relief. Who cares about the seventh?
Both F&F were trending in the wrong direction. It was time to move on. Hopefully, they will catch their stride and perform well in Cal. |

anyone complaining about frost being traded is (frank)ed in the head, dude sucked
At least 1 winger was also going to be traded, I really didn't want it to be Foerster, Brink, or TK. Farabee was the most likely candidate

Really? Coding in 7th grade? 👍 my son didn’t get that until high school. He really liked that teacher. Very influential. He ended up at Drexel and is a security analyst now. |

Now ASF stating they aren’t happy with York.
Notice a theme here? Either their scouting is dogpoop, their coaches have no clue how to develop modern players….
It’s clear as day that firing Fletcher didn’t change a thing. If nothing else it only further cemented long time employees into this zero accountability country club.
Briere is nothing but a Patsy.
They sure as poop better be trading most of these picks because they have developed Konecny, and Sanheim in the last decade.
Which brings about who they would target, and their pro scouting is just as alarming as their amateur ranks. The Sanheim/Krug deal staring those who doubt that in the face. |

JOB would have been something if he didn't get hurt ... but anyways .. it didn't work out. I think I was biased by him being a local kid maybe too much.
The difference here is I am willing to give Briere a chance and see his plan through before I judge him. People on this forum (not neccessarily you) have already labeled him incompetent and a Torts puppet, which is completely unfair. Clearly this trade to move on from Frost and Farabee is part of a larger plan. I seriously doubt Briere was looking around for another 2nd round pick. Bundy has been saying for a while now that the Flyers absolutely love Hagens. He is projected to be the 3rd player off the board in this draft currently. With a few more moves, the Flyers can easily be in the top 5 of this draft and then have the assets to move up to get Hagens. That is what I am thinking Briere is trying to do. - jd250
This is where I agree….they need a few more moves. My point on O’brien is simple …it’s opinion vs. fact. Do I think they can get into the top 5? Probably not unless they do move Risto, Laughton and maybe more. I will say this about the trade …it’s the first time the Rhetoric matched his actions. A few more moves and maybe we do see the semblance of a plan….i know that’s what I’m hoping for. |

You know what this means? Much higher ticket prices! The NHL is a gate revenue league, if the cap goes up, so do the ticket prices which are already much too high. - jd250
yesterday you said it's silly to complain about ticket prices.

If that’s true let’s hope he doesn’t want Risto, Laughton, Seeler, and a couple others that would help get them more assets for the future. |

Thats how NHL coaches work. It is their way or the high way. Brindamour had Necas on the 4th line. Many coaches have played Laine on the 4th line. Coaches typically always punish players that dont play the right way. Sprong is another example.
Coaches aim to vut bad habits out of players. Coaches who fail to do so end up with players like Yakapov. Zherdev and Kostitsyn bros. These guys all busted out of the NHL because of their defensive play. At the end of the day there has to be a certain level of defensive competence. You cannot be a liability on defense. You are not going to be able to consistantly win games if you constantly trade chances with your opponent. We dont need Michkov to be a Selke candidate. Just competent.
Torts is what he is. Many players who played for him liked it. He is harsh but they became better players for it. He isnt perfect and yes he does dumb things - xShoot4WarAmpsx
