Any news to share on Ristolainen? A few days ago you mentioned making calls with Flyers source on their plan for Risto? Maybe that was delayed while they finalized this huge trade. A source in Calgary said the Flames had been talking about Frost since September. So this didn't come out of the blue but has been going back and forth for many months...

Tough to name a winner when you don't even touch on the key aspect for the Flyers...cap space!! They obviously don't like Farabee at $5M × 3 more years, while also needing to qualify Frost at $2M+. They dump both contracts for a guy who probably walks this summer and a prospect at league minimum. This is your home team and you're not seeing that?

Cap space? FOR WHAT? Before the trade they had over $9 million in free cap space, between Ellis on LTIR and RJ's $4 million....Bad trade for Philly. This has the Patrick Sharpe trade coming back to haunt us for the next 10 years...absolute putrid return for 2x 50 point, under 25 year old players. Yet they have no issue almost tripling Seelers salary, with a NTC to boot just because he blocks shots? He is a good 3rd pairing dman, but what they gave him was too much for too long for what he brings.

Fire Briere...he has done a very crappy job with Philly..

1) screwed up signing Gauthier
2) drafted Luchanko over Buium
3) Resigned TK, Seeler, Hathaway and Phoeling to extensions when they should have been traded.
4) Refuses to trade Laughton and now Risto...

The other GM's in the league must have group chats and laugh at Philly..from Hextall's BS, to Fletcher giving away draft picks like food at a food bank, and now to Briere giving away players for junk and signing 4th liners and 3rd pairing dmen like they are top flight players.

For sure, except for having to pull up roots and move to a new country, they were by far the two happiest people in Philadelphia last night. Its a small price to pay to get away from Torts.

I lived in Calgary for 9 years...great City if you are young and into outdoor winter sports...not many lakes in Alberta, so that sucks, but Calgary is a fine city to live in.

Signing TK was the worst option to what they could have done with TK..he should have been moved. No issue with what he is getting paid this year and the next few, but as with most who dislike it, I don't see him being worth half his contract at the age of 36 and 37. The return could have given us the centers we need, instead we signed the projected second line winger, as Mitchkov plays the same side, to a stupidly long and expensive contract for a cap team that is supposed to be rebuilding.

So yes..signing TK was a bad thing. I stand by that.

So Briere's returns from moves he has made...

So just for Frost, Farabee, Hayes and DeAngelo..

The Torts effect in full force. Like it or not, Hayes was an all star that year over every Flyers on the team. He was going at a point per game pace until Torts started to play games. I personally don't like the player at all, hated his signing in Philly, and knew as soon as the deal was signed that the signing was bad. However, an allstar, with salary retention bringing his salary to $3.5 per should be able to get more than a 6th rounder years down the road.

So for the 4 players above, the return was:

An overpaid UFA who is a goal scorer that can't score goals
A tiny player who passed through waivers this year
a 7th rounder in 2028
a 6th rounder in 2026 ( I believe this is the Hayes return)
$5.2 million in salary retention the first 2 years, $3.5 the next.
a 2nd rounder this year (not worth anything according to JD, as a late first for Risto is meaningless, so might as well keep the player...so a second is worth even less..)

Just a stellar GM at work.
