By 2027-28 the cap is projected to be 113.5M

Tanev cap hit by percentage of the cap would be around 3.35M compared to today. Tidy buisness.

Marner is getting paid though.

He seems like the kind of player that won't be afraid to come in, get vocal, and teach all the pansies on this team that losing is not an acceptable outcome. This team likes to win, but they don't hate losing enough.

Bruins fans have really turned on Marchand this year. Every tweet I read about him is how he is a poop leader and needs to go. Funny how it works.

There may be a shift in parity the next 3 years. If the cap goes up 25M within 3 years budget teams will not be able to keep up. This is going to be an advantage for the rich teams of the league.

I think he is the same leader he has always beem...They are just poop. Don't think Marchand handles losing well either. He never has so.

There's rumours of a giant rift on the dressing room.

Two of their best players - an older guy and a younger guy just coming into his prime - are said to absolutely franking hate each other.

It's a terrible situation - even the club president has said that it's unrepairable.

Realistically, they are going to have to trade both guys, and will probably get pennies on the dollar. It's going to set the team back 2-3 years.

It just really sucks. It sucks so bad, in fact, that I'll probably go and troll other teams' threads today, because I can't bear to face the reality. Yeah, it's a cowardly thing to do. What can I say?

EF thinks Marchand could be in play soon.

Not sure if there is a fit but it would be hilarious and entertaining if the leafs got him.

- Santo_44

That would actually be hilarious.

Not gonna happen with the Don down south. NHL revenues are going to be below projections I think.

Historically the NHL is pretty bang on with these.

Aside from the covid surprise of course. If anything the projections have been surpassed.

C'mon, fellas: can you imagine how much time Marchand would spend in the box with a Leafs crest on his jersey?

Giving up the Bruins' amulet of immunity would make Marchand a lot less effective.

- Atomic Wedgie

He's such a weasel, he'd probably steal the amulet of immunity on his way out of Beantown.

Would be funny but he’s actually a flyer fan first, Columbus second and Van is a distant third team for him.

Was that from Friedge today? He's been bouncing around with his intel but I think I'm deciphering from all the commentary that the Cap "should" be about 100M right now and then would climb at about 5% after that ....so they're really just negotiating a how best to spread out the increases.

One big jump for next year would benefit this years UFA's too much. Better/fairer for all players to stage the escalation.

97M ....105M ....113M ......something like that.

Interesting part of today's #NHL / #NHLPA memo to teams is that this isn't merely a projection of cap increases, but an agreement between the two parties.

2025-26
Upper Limit: $95.5m
Lower Limit: $70.6m

2026-27
Upper: $104m
Lower: $76.9m

2027-28
Upper: $113.5m
Lower: $83.9m

Doesn't matter. Escrow debts are paid off. This is happening.

Some of these guys are just hard-wired this way. Miller, Marchand, maybe RoR ....great guys to have when you're winning b/c they elevate everyone with their uber-competitiveness BUT they get douchy and it's ends in conflict when the team is losing.

You can get away with that if you're the best player on the team (eg. Nate Mac) but if you're kinda 1B to guys like Pasta and Pettersson there's a big risk of conflict.

IMO, the Leafs could really use a guy like that to elevate the Core in the playoffs.

Compared to Bergeron, he probably is a poop leader, but he won't need to be a leader in our locker room. But that doesn't mean he can't be vocal and call out bull$hit.

Marner the pending free agent will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrenaii, Marner's contract came as a very large and moving caphit. Then in the third reconciliation of the last of the HockeyBuzz Supplicants, they chose a new contract for him, that of the highest paid player on the team! Spatso and Bingo knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a forum thread that day I can tell you!

That is what I am thinking. The sheer mental boost they would have from having Marchand on their team...after him being the nail in the coffin for them every year.

He also is a fantastic player with the on ice abilities to back it up.

He is one of the few players I would overpay to have on this team.

I would even bet he would welcome a trade to the leafs, he is that type of guy. At the end of the day he is a rat for whoever pays his bills.

He is an old school guy.

I would bet it would be more likely he would be a rental...but with the cap increase it would be possible.

He just has been underpaid his entire career, he likely wants term.
