An interesting note on the salary cap numbers released by the NHL and NHLPA today -- the $104M upper limit in 2026-27 and $113.5M upper limit in 2027-28 are effectively pencilled in and could theoretically go up.
This is a dark day for the Sabres. They are a team that will suffer from this, they won't be able to keep up with this upper limit and already can't attract FAs. - Santo_44

I said lol okay because you saying one of the best players in the league will decline at 31. "Way too early for predictions" Use your own advice ok?
And Buffalo will have to set an internal cap. Quite a few teams will, early on anyways.
Friedman mentioned today that some owners are worried and complaining that they won't be able to spend near the upper limit. - Santo_44
Some will.
Pegula is worth over $7b....I doubt he will have trouble spending $20m more on the sabres to improve their results. A winning team in Buffalo would net some nice financial returns. |

Ok but this is a business. Sabres are a bottom 5 team in revenue and they will only spend so much percentage of that. |

You are dreaming if you think he will spend 70% of his revenue on players. |

Right now they are because their team has missed the playoffs for over a decade.
Bring a supestar in and make the playoffs, they be back in the top 20 revenue teams like they were decades ago. |

When the sabres get back to winning, revenue will increase.
Plus solo owners usually spend based on ego...if he thinks the sabres can win more with $20m increase spending. Im sure he will. |

You do realize a guy with $9B even earning 5% annual return on his money is making $450m a year.
Pretty sure his wet fart is worth $20m. |

He is not going to turn the Sabres into a negative dude. The Sabres haven't spent and will continue to not spend. That franchise is in muddy water.
They are not going to magically jump in revenue the next 3 years. They stink. |

How many superstars have been available in the past 5 years that they could easily overpay by a large amount and not have it impact a huge portion of the cap.
They traded out a superstar to get Tage.....because they were a mess.
Fix the mess, start winning, willing to overpay....they'll attract players. Just need one big name to sign.
We'll see. |

They have not been able to bring any free agents. They are not a destination and nothing is going to change that in the immediate future. |

The best way for that franchise to make money is to have Leafs play there 12 times/year. I’m not sure there’s an economic/corporate base to make them a big spender even if the team gets better.
I agree that Winnipeg is in the same position. |

Real concern for (some) Canadian teams moving forward: a $113.5 million USD salary cap in 2027-28 equates to $163.2 million spending in Canadian dollars based on today's rate.
And I think it’s going to get even worse… |
