Yup, zero offense, and I believe he was on the ice last night for both the tying goal by Bennett and the winning goal by McDavid. He did not look good on that tying goal, although I don't think he can be faulted on the winning goal. Was that Matthews who left McDavid all alone in the slot???
The other guys you mentioned didn't do much either, but I did notice Kreider throwing a couple of good hits. - JohnScammo
Nelson iced it for the game winning faceoff too lol. Fox over committed on 2nd goal but was Nelson's guy too

In fairness to Brock Nelson, he’s never played with that level of skill. The talent was next level. Brock is used to the islanders…where anyone can occupy a first line wing spot, which can lead to PP1 time, and subsequently the worst PP in the league.

I've been in a long debate with someone on x over this. These guys are the best of the best and these are the hardest teams in the world to make. That said you're playing against basically 4 top lines so every shift is against elite competition and that's a big jump. Hell canada top 2 lines are all world

10000%. McDavid is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I used to think Lemieux was the greatest with the puck. McDavid takes that trophy imo….his speed and control of the puck is legendary.
Brock Nelson has his spoke in the wheel, but this was best on best, not best on isles 2nd line.

This all means that resigning both Nelson and Palmieri would be super smart.

Watching McDavid on this stage was amazing. His speed and skill are just on a whole other level. What is amazing is that he makes it look silky smooth.

Team usa did a great job limiting him in fact he was invisible in the last game until he wasn't and that was on a d breakdown.

Best on best tournament (minus Russia*) and he stands out, along with a few others. Big game players score big game goals. There’s a goal against the Rangers I believe, where McDavid curls back and just undresses the entire team to score. Incredible.
* politics should be left out and Russia should have been able to enter the best on best imo. I’m curious how much of that was politics or the NHL not wanting to profit share with the KHL who would have had players playing and this was an NHL sponsored event?
Nelson, Palmieri, Dobson, Pulock and Pageau all must be moved at the deadline. Varlamov out. Lou out new Gm in, Sign the 3 new D men and rebuild complete.

I thought it was strictly an NHL event. So how would KHL be participating? And yes, it would legitimize things if Russia was allowed to participate on this stage.
Just trying to generate a discussion that is all. - Nfdbulldawg
I get it. I just have a hard time with these hypothetical discussions. Lou is going to Lou. That means none of us will have a clue what's going on until after it happens.
I will say I don't want anything to do with the Leafs. I've hated them for more than 20 years now. I want them to fail in every way. I hope some other team presents a good offer.

I just want Palmieri and Nelson traded. I’d prefer it be somewhere other than the Leafs but if it’s them so be it. Just as long as it’s done.
Sounds like the defense for tonight's game could be the best 6 the team has iced in a while. Do not get too excited as there is no major change in the offense.

Let's see what the break did too this team. - Nfdbulldawg
After reading multiple articles on this topic. I know it is the price of doing business, but I do not know why GM's do not allow the following to happen.
1. If you know you are dealing for a UFA, request a deal be in place prior to the
trade. It will give receiving team security that they are getting the player they
wanted for more than just the playoffs. Plus, the trading team gets a better
return.
2. If no deal is in place the team dealing the player gets a pick or a prospect that
is it. If the player decides to sign later the team that trades him receives a
draft pick based on the type of player they traded. Tier I Tier II Tier III. I.E.
first/ second line, third, and role player.
Not sure Carolina would have made the move they did had they felt there was no chance to resign him.

I guess he feels he can get a better deal July 1. Or maybe he just doesn’t wanna be in Carolina?

.
Definitely not blaming the player.
I am sure he is going to wait to see what contenders shake out of this season and which team has the best possibility for lengthy contention.
You cannot blame a player for wanting to get the best deal for himself and his family. The other thing to keep in mind is that he has only been in Carolina for a month. Not a lot of time to determine a lift decision.
