Whatever happened in the past with DeAngelo, who cares. That guy is the isles best dman. A few times last night he was pressured in the isles end and rather than panic and give it away off the boards, he was patient and found the outlet pass. I attribute the isles success the last few weeks to the new d core. Barry Trotz esq…..it’s like a totally different team on the backend.

Lou finally listening to the Wolfpack about replacing Leddy and Toews with puck moving dmen.

Deangelo has been an incredible pickup so far, small sample size be damned. I assume his game will show some warts for for the low, low price of "nothing" I'm willing to give him some runway because even if he slips a little he's still a very valuable piece to play lower-pair minutes and PP.

Agreed, although I actually had been worried more about his reputation for disrupting the chemistry in the locker room. I have come around to thinking that stuff may have been a bit overrated and overstated, and so far he's been solid on the ice which is where it really counts.

It may all eventually come back around and turn out to be true, but until he's a problem and/or not playing well I'm willing to let it ride.

Supposedly the players during his Rangers tenure absolutely loved him

Honestly both DeAngelo and Perunovich have been incredibly impactful n terms of puck possession and positioning. With Tonyy at 29 and Scott at 26, both should be approached as longer term options, which makes a higher priced dman more expendable. I thought Pelech and Deangelo were fantastic together last night

This has been the thought of looking for cheaper options and not just giving out bad contracts in a Cap world. It's better to let some players go than locking them up to bad deals.

I'd certainly love for them to sign Tony and find a way to launch Mayfield into the sun.

The room probably could have used some fresh faces to get guys out of their comfort zone.

I find it ironic that the core dmen struggled so long with Roy’s defensive structure, but somehow three new guys step in an adapt without much flaw.

Roy said it is not a complicated system. Dobson with his talent should not have been struggling. Pelech and Pulock have been dealing with injuries and that has not helped. Romanov is good, but his style can lead to getting banged up.

They made it seem complicated with all the blown leads and defensive lapses the first half of the season!

Injuries or not, for the past two years all of our dmen seemingly forgot the most simplistic of defensive norms. That goes for all of them, missplaying 2 on 1's, two dmen behind the net, two dmen committing to the same man, no one taking a body at the crease. We're not just taking system struggles. They were routinely screwing up hockey fundamentals

I agree keaner. It made no sense. This was not a bunch of 18-year-old dmen. This is also the 4th oldest team who should know better. I'm not sure if there is fear the team could be broken up and the players decides to get it in gear?

They have definitely changed the d zone structure a bit lately. They aren’t as aggressive on Roy’s second man approach. They have also protected the middle of the ice and been a bit more patient engaging their man on the outside. Still a hybrid man to man but just not as aggressive. Again more patient engaging/helping on the second man. They were jumping in and leaving men wide open in high danger areas previously.
Now most of the chances are from the outside and typically there’s a defender near by.
It’s made a huge difference.
I’m sure sOrOkin is happy as well.
He’s also been outstanding.
What can you say about the PK other than it’s gone from sh!t to steak. It and the d zone play and break outs have made a huge difference.

Will you guys stop winning

It’s wild how good Deangelo looks for you guys. If he could just stay unpolitical and play hockey they’ll have something

I saw you guys talk about him with rangers and I think he left the org because he had a fight with Georgiev (because he sucked lol). Either a legit punch or loud argument.

We could say the same about the Rangers. Islanders players take the start of the season off then kick it into gear when there is danger in missing the playoffs.

Isles get 7 seed -Rangers 8 seed, see you in the ECF

Rangers have had the weirdest season I can ever remember and Im 51. Too many teams to jump in the standings is their problem now. 30 games may not be enough

Going to be tough making the playoffs with many teams having a shot and the Islanders injury situation. Many of us are torn as we could get nice returns for Nelson and Palms and they are clearly not the future. I’m 53 and pretty much every Islander season is weird. This one might be one for the books.

I am just gonna enjoy the play. I am not expecting this team to make the playoffs. I do not have any expectations with the current Dmen recently acquired. Right now, there are too many unknowns to do anything other than enjoy the current run of good play by this team.

The true answers may come at the trade deadline. Until then
