Calling him lazy makes me think you just don't watch Canucks games. The guy backchecks as hard as anyone and jumps in front of shots on defense more regularly than any almost any other forward on the team. - NorthNuck
Not what Im getting at. Coaching and management keep harping on his prep habits how they aren't where they need to be. He is suppose to be a leader. If he's dogging it in practice and coming to camp outta shape he's setting a really poopty example. You think Mackinnon Mcdavid Do that? That's who his team has to play through. Lead by example like Quinn what is so hard about that to see |

Yes, both him and O'Connor lead the team in possession, they carry the puck, almost like offense hasn't been beaten out of them with the dump and chase. Petey, Boeser and DeBrusk need to control the puck more and not be afraid to turn it over. Rag that (frank)ing thing!! - Pacificgem
With the teams defense being pylons, outside of Hughes of course, turnovers at the offensive blueline would be absolute death. You can't play like that and hope to win. Now that the defense is being improved, you can take a few more chances with the puck. But everybody know that turnovers at the offensive blueline is instant 2 on 1 at least coming back your way. |

He's absolutely not lazy, you don't average the most ice-time being lazy in the NHL. He lead all forwards last season on the Canucks with 19:39 in ice-time. JT Miller was second.
Is he a weird kid, yeah, apparently he is. I don't care if he's traded, but he doesn't deserve the hate he gets. - Pacificgem
100% does not deserve hate, but does deserve a lot of the criticism. But it is not all on him either. The team chose unwisely in their assessment of the player and the person before committing to him with the large and long contract.
How can the GM / President come out and say that they have been on him and are disappointed in his overall commitment, then give him the deal they did?
Poor asset assessment. |

Yeah, the team set themselves back about 5 years not moving them. Similar to what Pit is doing with Crosby and Malkin right now. Tough to ship out franchise legends, but looking at it from a purely business standpoint clearly it would have been better to trade them. - NorthNuck
There has to be no untouchables in pursuit of winning, period. It is a business, and Canadian teams have it even tougher. 163 million CAD Cap is upcoming ASAP to add to the difficulty.

I don't know why they were publicly pressing so hard to get him to sign that contract last year. Rutherford (frank)ed that one up by coming out publicly to try and force him to sign. Clearly he had reservations due to some things that have now come to light, Allvin and Rutherford have made some good moves for the club but they've also completely messed up part of it by their actions.
If they knew there were problems last year they should've dealt with them back then, but no, they let it linger for a year until it blew up in their faces. They should've traded Petey and Miller last year and set a precedent for the club, no one is more important than the organization. |

It's been that way since the Bure years, he wanted to get out of Vancouver because there's too much noise surrounding himself and the team, so they drove him to the airport and said see ya later.
If the organization was smart they'd quiet the noise and just try to win instead of shipping everyone good out of town. The fans attacked Bure, they attacked the Sedins, they attacked Naslund, now they're attacking Petey. Some of that is on the players, no doubt, but Canucks fans are the worst for pressuring management to get rid of great players.
#ZeroCups - Pacificgem
Damned if you do / Damned if you don't.
The team has made so many wrong choices over the years that a lot fan base is now hostile to any move, pro or con. Really tough spot to be in when revenue is on the line.

Could you imagine the blow back when the Canucks were chasing down their first playoff birth in a while, leading the Pacific... and then they just traded JTM for no reason that we knew of? |

What I like about this management group is they move on if things don't work the way they want. Same applies to EP116, they want more from him. He's got the rest of the season to show them. If not, trade him by July 1st.

I agree with all of this.
Why the pressure to sign?
Why commit when you had serious reservations about the player and person?
Why do they seem to be behind the curve on many issues?
The best thing about this management group so far to me is, that they seem to be willing to not double down on mistakes, and make the hard choices to make corrections. The biggest now is to move on from Petey and wash away all the stink. |

Ya, they buried that deep down hoping that winning would remove the turmoil. It didn't... |

I think Myers' "Our room was really good tonight" was also pretty telling. Everyone can just breathe a little more relaxed, and come together as a group (finally). Hope it's not too late now - NewYorkNuck
I am thrilled to death that they are happy and giving each other warm hugs, but they are in a playoff race and not winning. But everyone is happy so there is that.

I think Petey's knee if (frank)ed, I saw him turn last night and he favored the one knee. His turn looked awkward. Sell!!! - Pacificgem
Why is the coach playing him then, it is not like they will miss his dynamic point production. |

I think there was some good things last night. The timing sucks because there are 30 games left and the team needs to start winning yesterday. Thy do not have the cushion of having 2-3 weeks to adjust.
Boeser needs to start scoring again too. If Him or EP40 scored on their good chances last night then the team wins. |

I'm curious to see if Chytil sticks with Garland/Joshua. He was very complimentary of them after the game, it'd be cool to see some chemistry develop there - NorthNuck
Yeah that has makings of a legit 2nd line. Leaves 3rd and 4th a little barren besides Sherwood, but probably one problem at a time right now.
Doesn't appear Blueger / Dak / Garland are going to find that chemistry they had last year as a very solid third line. Feel a lot has to do with Joshua just not the same (hard to blame). Hopefully he bounces back next year, musta been a terrible off-season. |

Boeser actually looked better than I thought he would first two games without Miller, but imagine a seed has been planted for a fresh start for him as well.
If Petey is hurt, they should just shut him down so he can rehab properly and not have it impact his off-season as well. The season should probably have been lost a long time ago anyway, if not for Lankinen. |

Interesting quote from PA saying it is top priority to re-sign M Petey. Sort of a slap in the face for Boeser. I have also heard FA does not want to move Boeser this year.
I also wonder how pissed off FA is ATM. |
