I love that Chytil likes to carry the puck in himself as opposed to dumping and chasing. We know Petey would do a lot more of that if the coaches would let him. That quote in the blog from Dayal is bang on imo, if we watch Tocchet beat that out of him, we know where the problem lies. - NorthNuck
You ever watch Twiggy go into low gear on the zone entry? Slows the play down doesn’t drive it. He’s not big or strong enough to shield the puck. Doesn’t create passing lanes to wingers on the fly.
That leaves it to dump & chase |

I've been saying that since day 1.
Good complementary player, but not a player you build a team around. For the money and contract length, get out now before that no trade kicks in. - carsonagenic

This has been completely debunked, he hasn't played poorly for a year, it was only toward the end of last season he started to struggle. As widely reported, knee and wrist injuries caught up to him.
January 1, 2024 to end of the season he had 46 points in 46 games, +12 while averaging 19:31 in ice. Which is fine at a point per game.
February he had 11 points in 13 games, -4 while averaging 18:53 in ice. Again, fine.
March he had 9 points in 12 games, +6 while averaging 20:03 in ice. Again perfectly fine.
April he had 5 points in 8 games, +2 while averaging 19:23 in ice. He was struggling at even strength for goal scoring here and it carried into the playoffs. - Pacificgem
Sell before more excuses for his long contract looking like it will out last his durability easily.

It'll be interesting how it plays out. Apparently Tocc has lamented the dump and chase before, but his teams usually do that more? Maybe fixing the D now lets the forwards not have to come back in support as much and can play with more pace. Who knows. Should be a better last stretch of the season either way - NewYorkNuck
The D breakouts was disgustingly inept even bush league quality. Ops could check it down easily & create low event hockey nightly. There is nowhere to go but up now & when Willander joins. |

Yes, both him and O'Connor lead the team in possession, they carry the puck, almost like offense hasn't been beaten out of them with the dump and chase. Petey, Boeser and DeBrusk need to control the puck more and not be afraid to turn it over. Rag that (frank)ing thing!! - Pacificgem
Boeser is pretty good at possession poise & passing. Debrusk has to use his speed more. Petey isn’t fast won’t move his feet & isn’t strong enough to shield the puck. Has 1 go to stick handling. |

Both sides deserve the scrutiny for putting that sort of money on the table before anything was won. I think the biggest mistake made by a lot of managers is opening the vault before a player is a proven winner.
But yeah, being one of the top paid players and performing like Petey is deserves scrutiny. He's brought it on himself by wanting that pay grade and putting money before the team. - Load Management

I look at Petey as a flake. I remember years ago when he was into his fashion line and trying to record music in LA. It was the year of his contract when him and Hughes held out.
Petey when he first started was hungry and put up big numbers and for the last year has been 60% of his best year. He is an introvert and quirky. He reminds me of Yoko Ono for some reason.
It is time to man up and earn your contract.
I do blame PA more than anyone for his contract. There was a lot of pressure everywhere including here to sign Petey long term and the numbers they were throwing out were stupid. I also wonder how much meddling FA was involved. It looks like once again Frankie can't sit still and wants to call the shots. I think that is probably why JR did his rant last week so th public knows. |

I'm curious to see if Chytil sticks with Garland/Joshua. He was very complimentary of them after the game, it'd be cool to see some chemistry develop there - NorthNuck
Garland the best F all year. Dak is bottom 6. Chytil will & should have top 6 wingers.
Garland Chytil Boeser
Debrusk Chytil Garland
Petey should get leftovers til he figures it out. |

I am not exactly sure but I believe last year you were 100% behind extending him at a number of 11 mil.

It's been that way since the Bure years, he wanted to get out of Vancouver because there's too much noise surrounding himself and the team, so they drove him to the airport and said see ya later.
If the organization was smart they'd quiet the noise and just try to win instead of shipping everyone good out of town. The fans attacked Bure, they attacked the Sedins, they attacked Naslund, now they're attacking Petey. Some of that is on the players, no doubt, but Canucks fans are the worst for pressuring management to get rid of great players.
#ZeroCups - Pacificgem
You forgot fans ended up making mgmt trade Neely/Wesley to sign Barry Pedersen. Pacific Mausoleum crowd then nowadays only in the newer version. EP is no Neely either. |

With the teams defense being pylons, outside of Hughes of course, turnovers at the offensive blueline would be absolute death. You can't play like that and hope to win. Now that the defense is being improved, you can take a few more chances with the puck. But everybody know that turnovers at the offensive blueline is instant 2 on 1 at least coming back your way. - carsonagenic
The D can actually join the rush better now. Something non existent before. |

100% does not deserve hate, but does deserve a lot of the criticism. But it is not all on him either. The team chose unwisely in their assessment of the player and the person before committing to him with the large and long contract.
How can the GM / President come out and say that they have been on him and are disappointed in his overall commitment, then give him the deal they did?
Poor asset assessment. - carsonagenic
I said 7/10m do you think that was realistic? I didn’t but hardball gets knocked when other idiots claim so called worth & in the future it will look good. All lame thinking & poor biz accumen. |

Could you imagine the blow back when the Canucks were chasing down their first playoff birth in a while, leading the Pacific... and then they just traded JTM for no reason that we knew of? - NewYorkNuck

What I like about this management group is they move on if things don't work the way they want. Same applies to EP116, they want more from him. He's got the rest of the season to show them. If not, trade him by July 1st. - VanHockeyGuy

I think there was some good things last night. The timing sucks because there are 30 games left and the team needs to start winning yesterday. Thy do not have the cushion of having 2-3 weeks to adjust.
Boeser needs to start scoring again too. If Him or EP40 scored on their good chances last night then the team wins. - VANTEL

Interesting quote from PA saying it is top priority to re-sign M Petey. Sort of a slap in the face for Boeser. I have also heard FA does not want to move Boeser this year.
I also wonder how pissed off FA is ATM. - VANTEL
Equating the 2 together doesn’t matter. It’s not an either or situation.
