It was nice to watch a game and not have this thread inundated with posts about how incredible Mitch Marner is. It's almost as if the Leafs COULD make the playoffs if they moved on from MM and brought in other pieces to fill holes on this team. I thought Domi had a pretty solid game, if he had more time on the top line I think he'd be a more effective player for the Leafs.

Nice to see the Leafs dominate a promising looking goalie.

So I heard on the radio talks of the cap and leaf contracts.

Know what sucks? Leafs sign all their core guys and then flat cap with covid. Now that those contracts are up the leafs are needing to re-sign these guys but with hugely inflated cap so they be looking to cash in again! Whereas other teams got deals signed on flat caps.

Anyway, heard an idea for Marner too. Maybe he signs a short term deal for 3 or 4 years at say 11.5 or 12 million and then when the cap is 113 million, cash in again but huge. He's young enough to do it whereas Johnny T is on his last chance to cash in.

I'd much rather he do a shorter term deal, I'd hate to sign him to 8x(ridiculous) only to find out that he does, indeed, disappear every year in the playoffs when the going gets tough.

Umm it was 1 game. The leafs have a great record without Matthews as well, but im not sure theyd want to move on from him (granted different type of player).
But as for marner, could they find 90 - 100pts in two other players that play pretty good D? Maybe. If he ask for anything over matthews, the leafs may have to find out.
As for Domi, he was better in the 2nd and 3rd period for sure. Still think that contract isnt great.
But lets see what he does in the playoffs, lots of time for redemption
