You’re not wrong, but don’t you think the trajectory has been pretty forward and he could further develop? he’s one of the best skaters on the team and I feel like he’s at a different level then most of the young forwar

This bothered me as well at the time. The only thing I could think of is Florida didn't know that they were the only team Giroux wanted to go to. Giroux lost me as a fan BTW when this happened. Even Ray Bourque near the end of his career was willing to go to a few teams, giving the Bruins GM at the time Harry Sinden leverage. Fletcher got a good return on this deal, but I wonder if Colorado and Minnesota were truly in on the deal if Fletcher might have done even better. - jd250
I know a lot of the background stuff that went on in this deal… G is a friend. And I have good connections in Philly and Florida. Colorado was just doing the flyers as a favor by pretending to be involved. Florida knew that was not true. The Panthers were going to win the presidents cup and playoff revenue was huge for them. They hadn’t had any for many years before that, so ownership said go for it basically… the Panthers weren’t in love with Tippet, and if you remember, he didn’t exactly blow the roof off here when he first got here…. The first round draft bag didn’t fit into the timeline for the Panthers anyway… and it was gonna be the last pick in the first round…

If you could cut someone, with no repercussions, it’s got to be Coots.
Keep/Trade? There isn’t one player on this team that I wouldn’t be willing to trade. There isn’t one player on this team that, in my opinion, is untouchable. |

One player you would TRADE… Rasmus Ristolainen. Because he makes too much money for what he provides and at the moment seems to be somewhat sought after by other teams, especially if the Flyers retain. Honorable mentions are Scott Laughton, Nick Seeler, Garnet Hathaway and Ryan Poehling.
One player you would KEEP…. Cam York. His underlying numbers are excellent and I think he will be a solid 2nd pair Batman for years. Honorable mention for Tyson Foerster.
One player you would CUT... Nick Deslauriers. He is not worth his cap hit or roster spot for only playing minimal games, and minimal minutes when he isn't a scratch. - MBFlyerfan
I agree with you on York. There’s this perception out there that he’s like this California Loosey goosy kid…. And it’s really not true. I mean remember this guy played for the University of Michigan. You can’t play lazy hockey at the University of Michigan. It just takes 3 to 5 years for a defenseman to really find himself. I mean two years ago everybody wanted to trade Sanheim….. I think work will be better than Sanheim. But who knows? |

Coolest tidbit here is that Giroux is your friend! What does he like doing when you guys hang out? He seems like a nice guy.

I know he is everyone's cut player but Couturier is going to be valuable as this team transitions in younger players. I think he will be a great buffer as I am praying a new young coach is brought in and with a transition to a younger roster, I think he will be leaned on. If he can be your third line center, I think there is a good value in riding it out right now.
Also If they move Laughton like I hope, i think keeping Couturier is more beneficial through this transition period.
This is not me saying he is great right now. But I think he will be needed moving forward. |

Keep: Michkov, Foerester, Andrae, Cates, York, Errson, Poehling, TK (I feel this is the heart and soul of the team and you could build around them). DB would stay and give him a chance.
Trade: Everyone else if you get a reasonable return especially Laughton, Risto, Sanhiem, Drysdale, Kuzmenko, Fedotov, Kolosov, Hathaway, Johnson, Seeler, Brink and Tippett (Most of these players will never have more value especially the younger ones). If you don't get a reasonable offer, you keep them until next trade deadline as this team is still far away from competing for a cup.
Cut: Coots because no one is taking on that contract.
Keep piling up as many darts as they can to throw at the board and build through the draft. There are few real hockey trades (player for player that works out, but if you can get some young players with skill then I would try that otherwise I would just keep trying to build internally with draft picks.
I would cut all the coaches, scouts and senior advisors and start with a new brain trust to start with new ideas and new methods. Tired of following the same crappy thinking of the old guard. |

I'd trade Tippett...Don't dislike him but he is way overvalued and I doubt he will ever live up to the contract. Plus, he's soft and streaky. I'm still ticked about the contract.
I'd keep Michkov. Love watching him play and will love seeing him more when Torts is gone.
I'd cut Coots if no strings attached. He's always been one of my favorites but his age, history of injuries, and the contract are not a good mix. |

He is a great guy. I wouldn’t say we hang out. I met him when I first did the Comcast show that I had called Flyersbuzz TV. I was supposed to get Mike Richards to interview, but the flyers had a bad weekend and hitch captain on the road that weekend. So I drove Claude around in my car because he was a phantom at the time. It was his first interview in Philly so we kinda bonded there. |

I do agree with you that Coots is basically a coach on the ice. However, I would trade him because I do believe that if you kept the salary, he’s a perfect fit for a team won a playoff run and you could get a first round pick for him. |

I have a very hard time believing they can move him at all let alone get a 1st for him. Who is touching that contract? Are you suggesting 50% retention?
If that was the case, why on earth would Couturier want to stay seeing the state of the team now and the next few years. |

If you’re talking the realm of the possible, I’td be:
Trade: risto
Keep: Foerster (mm isn’t on the table in any world)
Cut: d Lo.
Honourable mention for trade to Laughton and I’d be open to trading almost anyone for young prospects or picks. |

The Flyers do not want to hold salary for 5 years.....that would be nuts.
And no, he wouldn't fetch a first rounder. |

And pay Coots for the next 6 years? - WhiskeyMan
Pay him what? This is a fantasy game. It Not Keep Trade Buyout. It is Cut meaning we have the ability to just completely remove a contract in this fictional scenario |

I like the idea of veteran leadership, but does Coots really have any cachet with young players? He was a solid defensive forward who had one good offensive year with G on his wing. He’s pretty invisible as a player these days and is a very quiet guy. He started the year asserting himself physically (iirc he had a couple of fights), but has really faded as the year has gone on. The players seem more inspired by Deslauriers than they do by coots. |

Im sure he does but the issue is Couts appears to be our version of Jordan staal. If we had a chance to remove that money no strings attached, you gotta do it. Couts still has value but the cap hit is more hurtful than what Couts brings to the team.

I’ve watched a total of about 10 minutes of this silly tournament but I just might have to watch tonight’s game out of boredom. No Flyers trade rumors or games. No meaningful hockey. Football’s done. Basketball doesn’t do it for me. Anything good on Netflix or another streaming service to binge over the next week? |
