I remember reading a few years ago, some people thought Jarry would be Canada's goalie in the next Olympics. I guess not.

Im not really feeling about half of the Dmen on the roster and two that I liked, Makar and Theadore, weren't in lineup last night.

EDIT: I meant to respond to MacPatty with that haha

I thought USA were the better team overall last night. Canada wasn't making good tape to tape passes. Canada kind of looked gassed the second half of game, which is weird. Two of USA goals were great shots but also savable.

With a lot of Canada players looking sluggish it's hard not to wonder if whatever illness kept Makar out of lineup may have been affecting more of them.

It’s not. Sully’s system is just suffocating when he has players who can play it. That whole game was reminiscent of the Pens cup runs when they’d just smother you once they got the lead.

Also, I don't recall seeing Sid take a single face off in the tourney yet, which is weird because he's the best FO guy on team. So, this leads me to believe he's not 100%/arm is bothering him.

It's not what?

Everything else you said is a big part of why I said I thought USA were better team overall. However, that system isn't why they weren't connecting on a lot of passes most of time. I'm talking like clear outlets with no coverage on recipient being fumbled.

Ahh yes, take the condescending pr!ck route. I said its hard not to wonder, for me, knowing how contagions work and that these guys are in close proximity to each other. We've seen the Pen's, and other team's, overall play drop right the fvck off when a bug has swept through the locker room numerous times. A half dozen, or so, of them looked way slower than usual and they couldn't connect uncontested passes. Perhaps Makar didn't go anywhere near the rest of the team, or breath or eat near them, including during the Sweden game two days before while contagious, though...

As a heavy on analytics guy your assessment is off, anyway. The Pens in 2016 were analytical darlings, USA was not in that game. I think Helly would have saved those two goals. He saved much higher danger chances right on his doorstep among other shots from similar places as those two goals.

Binner let in 2 he should have saved. By period 3 there was no team game. Get the puck and try to skate through everyone. And let’s not forget..

“The illness” the shook the hockey world 😜😂

hahaha I'm not by any means saying this is definite, just that it really isn't that far fetched. Some of them looked like they were skating in cement, with hands of hardened cement, and it had absolutely nothing to do with Sully's system.

Canada were the Vegas(betting) underdogs in that game for good reasons. Reasons we all knew before the first puck drop of the tournament. I said here a bunch of times the past week I didnt like Canada's chances of winning that game... and that was with a healthy Makar and Theadore.

I think I saw on the flow chart that USA was in control the entire game. They also limited Canada's HD chances in the 3rd significantly. 1st period was all Canada, second was more even, 3rd the USA just stifled them to the outside with tight checking and pressure.

Look at the scoring chances for each team, let alone the fact Canada had 10 players with 65% xGF, or higher, at 5 on 5, and USA had none. I just found USA to be more in sync, more cohesive as a team. Passing and supporting each other better.

Yeah, this whole roster just doesn't feel right.

Tom Wilson should have been on this roster. MAF should have been on this roster . Scheifle should have been there.

We are missing Petro badly... I didnt care so much at the time, but then I started to watch the hockey and they are all taking it very seriously.

Not sure if this will actually happen but I read that the new top line will be Crosby-McDavid-Stone, so Coopers coaching strategy will just rely on Sid and Stone chasing pucks and McDavid doing what he usually does in blowing the zone for breakaways. Hopefully it works.

That's what happens when Georges St Pierre announced the lineup! It's going to end with a puck coming off Sid's stick.
- MacPatty

For the record, I was kind of right... Sid turned over the puck that led to the GWG

He was going with Sid-McD-Mak a lot last game, didn't work out haha

Tom Wilson should absolutely be there. Should be on the 4th line with Bennett. I would probably take Scheifele over Jarvis.

Its crazy Sid didn't take a single faceoff in that game and I cant recall him taking any vs. Sweden, either. That his arm isnt 100% has to be the only possible reason for this. That was a really bad turnover on their 2nd goal, no doubt.

No doubt. One of the best face off guys in the league wouldn’t make sense to not take a draw if he wasn’t hurt

That's interesting -- what I saw on Natural Stat Trick was different, thanks! I'll have to look a little further into this one -- NST's stats for these games haven't been as detailed for whatever reason.

I read somewhere reporters are noticing him covering up his hands and wrists when the locker room is open.

There was definitely a great shut down, and keeping to the outside, in the 3rd by your Yankee squad. A luxury that can happen with a lead. However, if Helly lets in any of the grade A's in the first 2/3rds of the game what ends up being the outcome of the game? Perhaps the same but who knows. I'm sure Canada could play pretty good shut down with a lead, as well.

To be honest I'm a bit surprised by what I saw on Moneypuck regarding xGF.

I was at the game today. Exciting ending! Fun for my boys to be at a game where Crosby, McDavid, and MacKinnon all scored.

Sid took a faceoff early and after that, not sure if this was on TV, he was shaking his left arm, then he didn't take any more faceoffs.
