Eklund: An Apology to Canada
- Eklund

As an American you should be ashamed for apologizing, The President wants what is best for AMERICA, not the world, Whatever the trade imbalance is he wants it evened out,

We are done being taken advantage of

It does not surprise me that you would vote for a the interests of something other than America -- you father should be ashamed

First, you just made this political by posting an apology that is not deserving.

Secondly, you did not hear booing on the Canadian national anthem in the USA. My family has served and died for this country. I have lost relatives in terror attacks and in the line of duty. The country of Canada is booing the national anthem is disrespectful and unnecessary.

Glad to see USA hockey fans keep it classy. Maybe you can learn something from them Eklund. Also, you speak of free speech, you delete my comment, and you go against free speech.

- Nfdbulldawg

Throughout history, both countries fought side-by-side, losing brothers in the line of duty; the anthem is about respect for those that paid the price honoring their respective countries. Booing the American national anthem was a classless act, regardless of political ideologies. Canada should be embarrassed.

Many Canadians, including myself, have no problems with #47.
So your apology makes no sense to us. Booing national anthem is wrong, regardless of anything and I am not sure who should apologize to whom.

Like your president, you don’t seem to understand this supposed “trade imbalance”.

1. Did you really vote for Kamala??????????

2. No, Canada has not been a good neighbour/partner/friend. While the people are generally pleasant and non-confrontational, Canada has, as Trump correctly points out, not done it's fair share. It's sort of like allowing your unemployed, down on his luck (but very friendly) buddy to crash on your couch while he gets his 5h1t together. Until the wife says "honey, it's been an awfully long time that we've been supporting this guy. He's a cool guy but when's he going to contribute something?"

So you're a jerk to kick your buddy out, but A. You've got to support YOUR family, and B. It's ultimately better for him to clean up his act.

Canada is sitting on some seriously profitable resources that they/we refuse to exploit. Canada has an out of control spending problem that is much worse per capital than the U.S.A. actually. We've got our own problems to worry about and need to clean things up. The USA doesn't need anything from Canada.

Also, the current U.S. admin is going on a very forensic deep dive on excess waste and spending, along with cleaning up border and trade policies. They asked Canada and Mexico to remedy the x-border drug and migrant leaks, OR there will be tariffs. Mexico did...Canada did not. Canada, not the USA, imposed pre-emptive tariffs and essentially began a defacto trade war.

3. Did you really vote for Kamala?

4. Really?

Thank goodness Biden sneakily got through a bill to prevent Republicans from making g cuts in Medicare and social security. Lots of issues and problems with either Harris or Trump. Trump is more scary and as brilliant as he is dumb. But hey give him a nod for trying to phonetically orally sound.ike the Great Communicator Reagan. Not fooling anyone how you come across. I won't wish bad on anyone but I woukd not be sad if Trump meets any kind of bad fate

"It truly sucks because some tough and ill-informed guys in Boston will boo your anthem when played in this tournament. They will boo as a retaliation for what happened in Montreal, because they won’t look beyond the surface."

I didn't hear one boo during the Canadian national anthem before the Finland game! So wrong again, EK!

The great thing about Trump's trolling, is it makes it really easy to identify people who are genetically incapable of discernment. Do you really think he'd make Canada a state? It would be like adding a second California and the far-left would rule forever. We're talking about a nation who worships Trudeau as their lord, savior and creator. When he was elected, Canada had the most prosperous middle class in the world, it's now at the level as the poorest state in the US, West Virginia. They did nothing as he took Canada from being 8% foreign born, to 38% foreign born. By filling the country with foreigners who could care less about hockey, Hockey Canada funding has been slashed and participation in the game has fallen by 25%. Canada is done for, and Trump does NOT want them, and neither does the rest of the country.

Eklund spelled out very well why he wrote what he did and how he feels about this news story which has become intertwined with hockey..Eklund.is wise to be an independent. Politicians and government have usually screwed someone or something without fail. Everyone should know that politicians who attain higher office scramble to not get stuck in in a web of corruption greed power and money. They all know the game and they abide in the game. Sometimes they make good decisions but most politicians can be graded with checkered past and currently will go forward in their political career certain to cave in to something that is not in the best interest of most people

President Trump is threatening to tear apart the fabric of democracy as well as fairness to a great number of people. It is unfortunate Trump and Musk plus his cabinet are a root cause to hockey, too.

I actually agree with everything Eklund said

I still can't believe people seriously buying into this obvious trap.
Even rename the streets is the problem and cost tons of money.
There is no way Trump considered to bring Canada and make it 51th state.

Two minority governments propped up by other leftist parties. And he only won the first election because of election interference from American funded special interest groups that wanted to ensure Canada would keep being a source of discounted oil.

Well I don't think it's very respectful to boo the anthem of another country. It some retrospect, I get it. Trump made the trade agreement with Canada during his first term and then he threatens to renege it by imposing tariffs on your closest ally with no discussion. This was his trade agreement that he championed as the greatest trade agreement in history. While, I do get it to some degree with Mexico, there is very little evidence that his actions do anything to prevent the fentanyl issue in which it is estimated less than 1% comes from Canada. I don't know the numbers, but I would imagine a lot more fentanyl goes the other way in addition to illegal firearms.

It was a weird flex by Trump on your closest ally to say the least. While I don't hate much of what he was doing, this didn't make much sense to me. But, Trump's approval rating is growing, so a lot of Americans are unbothered by it.

Lastly, if Canada boos America, America will boo them and shouting ignorance is just silly.

Here's to hoping the Tkachucks continue to make USA proud.

I just cancelled my season ticket to this worthless site, apologize my ass ass are you kidding me with this. I voted for Trump and I'm damn proud to say so that being said politics should be out of sports. You defending and saying you're sorry is an absolute joke and you're spitting on family's that have served and died for this country. you are a disgrace and so is Canada for booing, like the US they also have family's that have died for there country. This is typical of the Democrat's to post something like this saying it's ok do boo or steal or murder if you don't agree with this President, show some goddamn respect you scam bag. Ban me all you want this site sucks and has sucked. GOD BLESS THE USA AND ALL THAT HAVE FOUGHT FOR IT AND DIES FOR IT AND CONTINUE TO DO SO. MY SEASON TICKET IS CANCELLED AND IS MY READING THIS SITE.

I don't want to be overly political with this.

I'm a veteran of the US Army, 2008 to 2014. My country sent me and my teenage friends to die in Iraq so that rich folks could get richer. And now we have elected the richest president in history.

America is cooked. As a veteran, I am embarrassed by the direction we are headed.

Also threatening to leave the site because the owner disagrees with you is remarkably thin skinned. The idea you need to punish everyone who disagrees with you is weak minded and petty.

But fair to leave the site cause there is not a Blackhawks writer and because Eklund has a mindboggling refusal to proofread just once

To bring politics into this is sad.
First, on our President. The overwhelming MAJORITY of our country DID in fact vote for him this time. He won both Electoral College and Popular Votes.
I ask how many of us understand the concept of sarcasm? President Trump loves to use Sarcasm, and I believe the comments about bringing in Canada as a state were/are sarcasm.
I dont believe for a minute that he wants to take over Canada.

What I do believe is that Canada is our friend and neighbor to the North. And If someone attacked us, they'd be one of the first coming to our aid. In the same way, if someone attacked Canada, I guarantee we--including Pres. Trump--would be the 1st people coming to the aid of Canada.
I'm very sad that this is what we have become, that everything becomes political. I'm even more sad that a loud minority of people get to decide who President Trump is, what he stands for and what his supporters stand for. I do support him and Im not here--nor writing--to vilify those who did not. But I MUST speak up, because I'm so tired of constantly having to defend my side of the aisle from constant attack from everyone else. Some of the premises in the "apology" kind of do that passively.

Can we please just enjoy the incredible, awesome event this 4 Nations face off is? My how I've missed this type of hockey. I remember the Canada Cup--the tournament with 66 and 99 playing together was some of the finest hockey I've ever seen. That's all we want. So what if Canada boos the US anthem? They did that to Chicago and Chicago responded by giving us one of the most awesome National Anthem experiences in all of sports. Maybe instead of stooping to boo the Canadian Anthem, Maybe those in Boston could respond by loudly cheering and singing the US Anthem like they do in Chicago...That gives me goosebumps.... Let's do that instead of trying to reason way the booing by politics....

Whether you hate or like Trump, people should read some of his books. You'd at least understand him better.

Everything is a negotiation with him and his "America First" motto is 100% real. He believes the "international community" has taken advantage of his country for decades. We have massive trade deficits with virtually every other country and he believes it's the reason our middle class has been hollowed out. I've read we've lost around 70,000 factories in the last 40 years. Our industrial base is a shell of it's former self. The USA is the largest debtor the world has ever known in real dollars (not % of GDP). The USA is broke. Trump blames trade deficits and defense spending. Every country that benefits from our "protection", has huge trade barriers for our products.

His bombastic/obnoxious style has two purposes. First, he's highlighting the substantial trade deficit we have with Canada.

Secondly, he absolutely hates Trudeau and your government. He's emasculating him on the world stage. It's definitely personal. He believes JT is a died in the wool socialist. If you get on his bad side, he's ruthless.

The 51st state thing is just a troll and he doesn't care what anybody thinks. It's pure Trump. He's using it to frame his issue. Trump wants to reindustrialize the United States and that can't get done with massive international trade deficits.
