2. No, Canada has not been a good neighbour/partner/friend. While the people are generally pleasant and non-confrontational, Canada has, as Trump correctly points out, not done it's fair share. It's sort of like allowing your unemployed, down on his luck (but very friendly) buddy to crash on your couch while he gets his 5h1t together. Until the wife says "honey, it's been an awfully long time that we've been supporting this guy. He's a cool guy but when's he going to contribute something?"

So you're a jerk to kick your buddy out, but A. You've got to support YOUR family, and B. It's ultimately better for him to clean up his act.

Canada is sitting on some seriously profitable resources that they/we refuse to exploit. Canada has an out of control spending problem that is much worse per capital than the U.S.A. actually. We've got our own problems to worry about and need to clean things up. The USA doesn't need anything from Canada.

Also, the current U.S. admin is going on a very forensic deep dive on excess waste and spending, along with cleaning up border and trade policies. They asked Canada and Mexico to remedy the x-border drug and migrant leaks, OR there will be tariffs. Mexico did...Canada did not. Canada, not the USA, imposed pre-emptive tariffs and essentially began a defacto trade war.

I deeply regret that Mr. Trump and President Musk are putting Canada in a difficult position. Politicians and government have usually screwed someone or something without fail. Everyone should know that politicians who attain higher office scramble to not get stuck in in a web of corruption greed power and money. They all know the game and they abide in the game. Sometimes they make good decisions but most politicians can be graded with checkered past and currently will go forward in their political career certain to cave in to something that is not in the best interest of most people

Last year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, only 0.2 percent of the fentanyl that entered the United States came in from Canada. At the same time, thousands of illegal guns were smuggled into Canada from the U.S.. As for illegal immigrants, 15,000 came from Canada while 4M came from Mexico. Are you really going to lump us all in the same basket, not to mention, we've taken steps recently to stop those illegal crossings.

On the question of trade deficit, sounds like many Americans need to educate themselves on what it means exactly. A trade deficit is NOT a subsidy as claimed by Trump. It simply means that Canada sold more goods to the U.S. then it bought. Is that the result of some of exploitation by Canada? Of course not. 60% of everything we sold to the U.S. was oil. Not our fault that you consume a lot of oil and need to buy it from us. We have lots of trees and minerals that you lack. Sue us for being rich in natural resources and we'll sue you for having hot weather and beaches. Also, if you have 10 times more people (consumers) in your country, does it not make sense that you would buy more then us, who only has a fracture of your population? It's common sense but Trump has managed to make many Americans forget their basic math.

America does nothing for others unless they have a self-interest in it. Was there a diplomatic solution? Probably, if you're willing to concede to a bully. Putin has professed a desire to win back the old USSR. Do you think he would have stopped at Ukraine? Of course not. Europe was in his sight (or part of it). Some are NATO countries. The U.S., like all NATO members, would have had an obligation to go to war. You can do it on Europe turf or you can do it in Ukraine. I think it was a wise decision to stop Russia at its doorstep. Don't fool yourself. The US military machine wanted this as well. So much has been learned about Russia's military capabilities (or lack of). How drones became the #1 weapon. Does the U.S. invest more money and resources in NATO? Absolutely but it's the cost of having the most powerful voice (and hand) in the world. You want everyone to pay equally? Sure but then you lose your leverage. America is not willing to do that.

Assuming Putin would expand a war to regain his “empire”, as you said, many are NATO countries which brings US right in....that’s what stops Putin from ever trying that.

It is absolutely protecting their interests. You need to expand your definition of "interests". It's not just oil. It's also protecting a buffer that exists between Russia and Europe. It's about showing Putin that the world can quickly come together and fight back. Many Americans probably don't care and think that it doesn't impact them but if it doesn't now, it will in the future. As for Ukrainians, ask them if they think they are being sacrificed or whether they feel like they are protecting their country. Do you think they would be happier under the oppression of Russia? Trump back-stabbed them in the back by starting negotiations with Putin without Ukraine being involved. They already conceded that Ukraine will not get Crimea back and will likely never join NATO. The Art Of The Deal, uh? Those were to be used as leverage. Putin is laughing at Trump. He won the war the day Trump got in.

Canada has nothing that the US wants so why make it part of America then? Well because we have oil, gas, lumber, steel, aluminum, rare minerals, uranium, potash, gold, diamonds, just to name a few. We have lots of fresh water, something many States are running out of. We control arctic passage. So before you open your yap and claim there's nothing here you want, educate yourself. If, as a Canadian, I choose to pay more taxes so all of us can go to the doctor or hospital for free, that's my choice. You prefer a big military over health, your choice.

And for those who find it disrespectful for fans to boos the US anthem... two things. First, how would you react if another country threatened to take you over? Would you still respect them?
