The trucker thing should have been stopped quickly. They never should have been permitted to set up the way they did but Ottawa city police refused to do their jobs and things got wildly out of hand.

So you disagree with peaceful protests? Interesting

You are showing that you don't know the details of the situation. I assume you feel that's not important to judge everyone involved, though.

It’s a lil ridiculous that Canada held up a made up trophy like a Stanley cup after winning 3 freakin games.

The medals were plenty of non sense and then they go an do that 🙄

They seriously had no idea what to do with it. Nobody has ever won that thing before. Nobody ever will again. It was awkward as hell.

I'm all for peaceful protest and I'm all for civil disobedience but I'm also in favour of there being repercussions for said disobedience, especially when it's incited by utter stupidity.

I know the two most prominent individuals that were held up as ringleaders of that entire ordeal on a personal level. I have lived near them my entire life.

They are amongst the dumbest people you could ever meet. Perpetual victims of their own making.

Yea I agree. They could’ve just took a picture like they do with the conference trophy. I think they all jinxed themselves not winning the cup now, including Jarvis

I mean it's kinda tough to blame them for celebrating that way. First international competition in 11 years with NHL players, and that's putting aside all the political stuff surrounding it. It obviously doesn't have the prestige of winning Olympic Gold but it's still a chance to represent your country at the highest level.

They were violent? I must’ve missed that part. It was a peaceful protest against a mandate that never should’ve been. They recently just decided that Fidel’s son overstepped using the Emergencies Act.

3 wins lol. 3. Imo celebration overkill

It was cute when Marchand piggy backed Konecny tho. I’ll give them that lol

Still a win over your biggest rival on the international stage. And that's before even considering all the non-hockey stuff going on between the two countries.

Part of the problem I had with this was 4 teams really felt hollow. All in all the hockey was great, which is all that matters, but it felt very meh in the end for my liking because not all of the best guys played. Specifically Russia. I mean these players on Russia had nothing to do with attacking Ukraine which I’ll assume is why they werent “invited”

And too much downtime. They could’ve shortened the whole thing by a few days at least

Could it have been better? Sure. Does it suck for the teams that are now dealing with new injuries? Yup.

But from a fan perspective I thinks this tournament was an amazing success and those games were great to watch, particularly the two USA Canada matches.

Yes, it's unfortunate that Russia couldn't participate. It would have made for a better tournament.

I also have no problem with Russian athletes, in general, being banned from all international competitions. No, the athletes didn't attack Ukraine...but that's the fallout from the actions of their dictator.

Full agree that the thing could have been shortened a little, although I also kind of get that the NHL didn't want to cram a bunch of games in and risk more injuries to their stars.

The whole event was a massive W for the NHL though. They rightfully get a lot of criticism for a lot of things, but this was a resounding success.
