I thought the Gauthier situation broke down, not over the ELC 1 yr being burned off. My belief was William was looking for assurances he would not be sent to the AHL. Now I could definitely be wrong. Basically, when William went back to BC for his sophomore season the bridge was already blown up and there was no return. I kind of believe it happened that way because the rumor at the Michkov draft was the Flyers offered William to MTL for #5 overall when the Habs took Reinbacher. Whatever happened, the Flyers cannot afford another college prospect to not sign an ELC with them for a long time who has any chance to make it to the NHL. The optics would be awful.

So was Brink -- his offense has not really translated to the NHL

That's fine, Hoby Baker is about college excellence on the ice. Not a guarantee of stardom in the NHL. Would be curious how many Finalists decided to return to college the following season. I imagine the list would be pretty short.

Flyers need to get into top 5 of this draft. I really think Hagens could have a drop like Wright. Right now I see the top 3 as Schaeffer, Misa and Martone. After that I think it could be any of Hagens, McQueen, Frondell, Eklund, Desnoyers or Jackson Smith depending on the team.

I think Hagens is going to drop too. Things can change in the playoffs but Hughes no show in the 4 nations will make Hagens drop and Martone will rise because of the Tkachuks. A lot will depend on the lottery but I can see Martone going 2nd overall.

instead of overachieving last year, which you were totally down with, they should have traded everyone on an expiring contract and drafted top 5 instead of in the teens. They should do the same thing again, but wont, and they will draft in the teens again

You do realize tanking is not the only way to rebuild, i agree it has a better odds of rebuilding working but it also has bigger risk factors.

I believe there more then 1 way to rebuild.

Personally I would trade everyone and start from scratch but they not doing that and I know there way can work as well if they do it right.

How many 1st picks did Edmonton have and they still suck till they luck out with McDavid.

Colorado had 2 rebuilds till they won a cup.

I'm waiting to see what happens before I get critical about the way they handle things, at lest give them the opportunity.

Right now we picking 7th and are what 3 points from picking top 5. As well as we got weaker and I'm hopeful we get even weaker come trade deadline.

The whole ELC thing never really made much sense. The Flyers burned a year recently (at the time) with York and Brink. You mean to tell me they held the line with their 5th overall pick? I'm not buying it, there had to be more to it as you say.

No matter the order I think Schaefer, Misa and Martone are your top 3. McQueens package of size and skills could be enticing for a team. I see Desnoyers rising on some lists. Frondell seems to be rising with his recent play.

The head coach was talking about making a push after this break. Guess the results of the games between now and deadline will dictate what they do. Unless things go south don't see either being moved as Flyers overvalue both.

I think both are gone. If i am wrong i'll eat that but I think Laughton and Risto are gone. I think the hope is Kuzmenko plays well that he can be moved as I don't think he is a long term piece unless it is on something like a one year cheap deal.

I do feel maybe there is a surprise move if not at the TDL maybe the draft where someone like York or possible Sanheim is moved. I now he has a no trade clause but don't tell me he wouldn't want to go play for a cup somehwere. He is coming off a solid season and just was part of team Canada. value might be right to move

It’s a 4 game sample size the entirety of the hockey community was watching. The majority of NHL personnel have a bias against smaller players. There was already talk by Bob McKenzie in his first rankings that scouts thought Hagens was more likely a 2c because of his size. So watching Hughes disappear is going to reaffirm a lot of those biases.

I agree. TK is a real good NHL player. Drafted in a spot (24th overall) where most people on this board think talent can’t be found. Not everyone can be McDavid. If a GM received TK’s level of production with all of his selections at 24, he would be hailed a genius.
