I don't disagree with you, to an extent, but those 2 examples, Washington and Detroit, kept drafting to add on to those players, Canucks continue to give out high draft choices, because they got false hope from the play-in thingy and last seasons anomaly.
This team has nothing in the cupboards, but we keep hearing from this management that signing euro, college and Chl free agents is the way to fill in prospect pool.

Thing is the core was fine as we saw last year properly coached and rounded out with complementary players. After 4-5 seasons of development with this group the mix of players added/subtracted from this off season is just WAY off that's pretty apparent. I mean dude we still almost beat the Oilers second round last season and Pettersson was still AWOL lol. It was all there to be rounded out Allvin And JR just got sidetracked and made some very poor choices in the past year. And we are seeing the results.

Honestly, I don't know why he'd want to stay there. They basically forced him to sign his deal by publicly shaming him and threatening him with a trade. When he wanted to be a Canuck. All the while there were clearly dressing room issues he was dealing with, probably why he was so hesitant to re-sign. They lied about his knee and his wrist issues, that I get because it decreases his trade value if they were in fact thinking of dealing him.

Anyway, they overpaid the kid and they've basically killed his game, it's just a mess on so many levels. Which is not out of the norm for the Vancouver Canucks organization, it's been happening for most of their 50 something years.
