The problem with Fox that people miss on is, and the size thing, your best defenseman, and in most cases most expensive defenseman, can’t be under 6 ft and smaller. That when your asking for trouble when that smaller guy is the one who logs 23-24-25 minutes a game because over time it’s takes a toll. One injury to him lasts all season (like we’re seeing) and by the time the playoffs come, it’s toast. I mention Ekblad and people yell lol but that’s the type who you need logging all those minutes, and especially in the playoffs

Furthermore, now he has a shoulder injury and the opponents know. So now Fox’s shoulder will be a target by players and that will take a toll. It’s really nothing against Fox as a player, it’s just logical to think size is better. Fox would be our MVP if he was the 2nd pair guy. Which could happen if Schneider could fully blossom to a top pair guy

People around the league have said players have told them they love targeting Fox in the playoffs. During 4 nations it came out one of Canada’s strategies was to target Fox when he was on the ice. But I guess we’re just making things up 😂

Who was our best dman in 1994? Colorado's in 2022? Your best D man can be small if they are good enough, stupid narrative. The rest of the d corps, could use a size increase for sure, but Fox is not the problem.

It’s tiresome the whole Lindgren Fox debate 💤 I think both guys need a different partner.

Lindgren maybe end not going anywhere and people could lose their minds. Because he might willing to be the 3rd pair guy and take under 4 million, with term. Kind of like Mayfield.

I disagree what can I tell ya.

1994 is along time ago. Fox is slow too, it’s really a double whammy against him. For top pair minutes

Why can’t we compromise

Schneider
Fox
Borgen

right side. Fox needs less minutes, if that happens everything would be fine. Schneider needs more responsibilities, starting next year

I don't necessarily think he needs less minutes, but he DOES need to have better support from forwards, especially defensively. You can win with him. You just need to make sure mistakes around him are minimized as much as possible.

Size matters. If he was 6’2 215 lbs we wouldn’t even be having this conversation

Fox needs to be an 18-20 minute a night dman concentrating on running the PP. unfortunately he’s paid way to much to just be that, but doesn’t have the size to be a 22-25 minute dman.

Having a big back end helps. But look at Miller. Big but the softest player they have. Schneider does not even play a tough game anymore.

Its the right type of player along with the rest of the attributes.

- nyrangers2

Schneider, 3rd on the team with hits, first with blocked shots, pretty solid numbers.

Leetch was 6'0" on skates. Not bad for a small defense man!!

He needs the right partner. Lindgren was until he lost a step, Miller isnt. Maybe Borgen could be.

If fox only plays 18-20 and he has an increase in performance/point production, I don't think anyone will care about being less than 22mins at his cost

Fox biggest issue is his speed. Does not really take many hits.

Schneider is solid but a bottom pair dman on a contender. Nowhere close to a 1

Agreed, there arent many feared players who hit like Trouba, he is a dying breed.

You all are dumb. Simple solution is to put extra tall tuuks on Fox's skates and pads in the boot. TA DA!!!! 2.5 inches taller.

I contest an almost dead breed. Sad. It was great to see defensmen LAY people out open ice. Back in the day it was the saying "your fault for not keeping your head up"

None of this, I will fight and push you because you hit my teammate that was looking at his feet for the puck..wwaaaaa

I could care less about how much ice time he gets. It amazes me though that no coach has ever thought with less ice time he could benefit.

They could have a defense where 6 guys just get 20 minutes. There aren’t that far away from that. They’d need to sign/trade LHD, or trade.

Like almost 3 second pair D. That could work

2a miller Borgen
2b Ferraro (as an example) Fox
2c Urho/Jones Schneider

The targeting in the playoffs was taken out of context. It's because he is not physical and won't retaliate that way, not because he is easy to play against. Conversely, I will agree that he struggled in the 4 Nations, especially compared to his counterparts. He did not have a good series, as I wrote throughout the tourney.

I think the mayfield contract is widely regarded as awful already
