I would do the 1st round pick WITH retention. Let's be real here. This is the leafs aiming for their 3rd line center. I don't think you should really be spending your top prospect and a 1st for a 3rd line center even with retention.

I'd even be cautious to send the first to be honest. I'd probably pay like a holmberg + 2nd. I say that because even if the blues retain for 3 years they would STILL be getting out from under 50% of the contract that they want rid of.
