When the team you start cheering for since 1970, has sucked, it makes it easier to cheer for some teams with players I actually like

We are going on five years away from the West Coast now, the longer I stay away the easier it is to disconnect from the team. I'm almost there. But you won't be getting rid of me so easily, I will haunt y'all until this website is terminated.

This. There’s a very good reason you rarely see players this good move.

Imagine if after 2019 when Edmonton missed the playoffs they threw up their hands and said "Well, time to trade Mcdavid!"

5 years? Rookie numbers. Means you weren't such a fan to begin with

Haha - I would suspect I've been a fan of the Canucks longer than you've been alive. That being said, my favorite NHL player at the moment is probably Logan Cooley, I don't talk about him much but that kid is so good. We get all the Utah games on our local Cox cable in Scottsdale, I really wish they hadn't moved, they're just starting to get good. So many good young players too.

Bill Armstrong and Darryl Plandowski did a great job in a relatively short amount of time with that team. I think Armstrong took over that team in September 2020, four and a half years later they are right there competing for a playoff spot with some great young players.

Not even close. McDavid has never produced at a level Petey has over the last year. As a matter of fact he put up his 3rd 100 point plus season in a row in 2019. Which is exactly what you want a guy to do after you reward him with a massive contract.

The Oilers can just count their lucky stars Draisaitl wasn't emotionally abusing McDavid and killing his inner beauty.

I was pretty clearly talking about Hughes.

Agreed, the Canucks have a great core, no reason why they can't bounce back to... oh wait, they had an anomaly season and pretty much nothing else in a decade

No, didn't say any of that. But you build from the back end out. I'd give Hughes the keys to the vault. Dmen have a longer shelf life and you just don't trade franchise Dmen just to look for another to build around. You're just being silly.

Made some changes, it's time to let Elias Petterson #40 go.

And yes, I agree, defensemen are the cornerstone of any winning or successful franchise.

Exactly. We're talking about trading a guy for assets you're going to continuously re-shuffle hoping to draft another guy just like him.

I can't argue with the 2nd statement but that doesn't make you any less of an idiot.

And slower and less potential and less skilled but gotta be that tough guy that can score 15 goals and punch out a bunch of interchangeable 3rd and 4th liners and act like a true alpha in the room and blah blah blah...

Not at all, I don't want to trade Hughes at all. I'm just saying if they're going to draft a dman I'd pick someone like Shea Theodore, he's the perfect blend in a defenseman. He has size, he can skate, he's really gifted offensively, he defends well, he's intelligent...that's a great player.

Funny, local kid, plays just a hundred miles south of Vancouver, but they picked Hunter Shinkaruk - what to do?

Ya, just like that.... We can't have Draisaitl like nice things.

His size doesn't really hold him back at all. He's the reigning Norris winner. If you want size on the back end you sign other guys to do that.

Yeah, it'd be better to have less skilled players
