Just pure entertainment that the Flyers are so torn on a player like Scott Laughton after this many years. This is an easy decision.

Yea i think you hold on, unless they pay close to what you ask.
The flyers are in no rush, I find most fans are inpatient and want action regardless, then they will complain if the Flyers didn't make out like bandits.
I personally do believe they trading at lest 2 defenseman over the off-season. They have such a log jam and you could package a York and a 1st and really get a center obviously it might cost more.
The key is really see what the flyers have and what they can live without - SlNlSTER

I guess the real question is this. Since both Laughton and Risto have term, do you hold out for the deal you want NOW, or do you wait until the offseason or even next years deadline when Laughton is a pending UFA and Risto is down to one year left?
If you can get a 2nd then do the deal, though I would prefer a prospect for both players. If a 3rd is all you get then be patient. See what is what at the draft, maybe you can package a pick and Laughton for a prospect. Im not sure how valuable Risto is at his current cap hit and term. Sure he is playing the best hockey of his career but that isn't really saying much when you look at his career lol. Most of the league knows what he really is, a third pair defenseman on a contending team. - MBFlyerfan
As time ticks by it will end up being a case of diminished returns. Flyers will wait to see what offers are this week. If they don't like them they will wait. Once they see the offers haven't changed at the draft they will re-sign Laughton this summer to 3 year extension.
The GM must have been sick the day his online class covered selling at peak value. |

I’ve said for years mjl is bill. It’s bill taking the opposite position of every post to drive hits.
Bill is now gone. Bill hung around for a bit as mjl to wrap up his character and now is fully gone. At best you might see a here or there pop up mjl comment in future as bill surely will check in from time to time. They aren’t giving out bans now as bill is gone - Stayin alive
Haha. I’ve thought of this. I’d go a step further, bill is both mjl and jd. Pages and pages and pages of the same argument. It drives clicks because I have to sift through pages of that crap to find any intelligent conversation about the team.

For me, it is not about what you get for Laughton; it is the roster spot that opens. It is time to see if someone like Gaucher/Gendron/etc can step up and at least replace his production. Laughton will not win a SC in Phila -- they are far too flawed a team which requires him to play way too high in the line-up to be effective.
Regarding Kuzemenko, they last thing the Flyers need is to give another 7/8 year deal to a 29 yo. They already have 2 soon to be massive contract anchors......

This is what many (the non kool-aid drinkers) are upset with. Laughton, gh, rp, ns all should have been moved for draft assets last year |

To be fair there is no one in LHV who can take his spot. Let that sink in as to what the Flyers currently have in the pipeline. These guys are not even producing at the AHL in any special way.
Kuzemenko will not command a 7/8 year deal. 2 probably. Maybe even 1 |

Agreed. I can’t believe the plan is to keep kuz. Flip him for whatever you can get. I’m ok to keep Pelletier to see if he’s got any potential or as a capable call up from the a. Otherwise, I’m very ok to send out laughts rr and others if need be.
I noted yesterday that bee and frost aren’t exactly lighting it up in Calgary. Maybe there’s a reason we got almost nothing for them other than dumping bee’s salary.

The pravda media are starting the spin
THE FLYERS COULD HAVE A QUIET TRADE DEADLINE
THE ATHLETIC: Kevin Kurz wouldn’t be surprised if Scott Laughton and Rasmus Ristolainen remain with the Philadelphia Flyers after the March 7 trade deadline. The Flyers aren’t in any rush to move two players considered integral parts of their roster. Their asking price for Laughton could be too expensive for most suitors, while Ristolainen hasn’t generated much interest in the trade market.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Laughton is signed through next season and Ristolainen through 2026-27. There’s no need to move them to cut costs because they already did that by trading Joel Farabee to Calgary in January. Laughton and Ristolainen will remain in Philadelphia unless someone makes a significant offer this week.

Honestly, what's hist spot?
I would say Cates has moved past him. And in all reality I don't really care how fills his role this year. They have enough guys they can throw in the bottom 6.
If you move Laughton you could bring up Abols or Gaucher to fill that 4th line role for the rest of the year. This team is not winning anything so I could really care less who replaces for the rest of the season
Michkov - Couturier - Tippett
Konecny - Cates - Kuzemenko
Forester - Poehling - Brink
Hathway - Abols/Gaucher - Pelletier

Flyers do not have any NHL level players in LHV is the point I was making. Do not misconstrue that as thinking I want them to keep Laughton. I do not.

That speaks volumes and why this is a losing organization.
Culture is their big selling point. What they leave out is they breed a losing culture.

I got you.
But for the remainder of this year does it really matter? They could plug someone in a 4th line role. I mean i would just let Gaucher run center at that 4th line and see if he can be that guy.

Ya see? Flyers never needed a rebuild. They had the assets all along. Addition by subtraction. Out with Bee and Frost, stand pat with Risto and Laughton!
GOOD LUCK FILLING THE SEATS IN THE NEW ARENA AT THIS PACE.

I guess in the end, this organization is going to rely on using draft picks to acquire upgrades on the roster. All I read is how integral or need to find out how much more a player can develop with this roster. Apparently, all of these players on the roster are basically irreplaceable and can only be pushed out by prospects over time. I guess Andrae or Grans are not NHL regulars because for 2 years they have not been able to sustain on the main roster. I find Kurz to quite the mouthpiece for the organization- maybe I'm missing something. |

And no one was giving Seeler a 4 year deal. If there’s one team dumb even to give kuz a 3 or 4 year deal it’s the team he resides on |

I don’t think it matters. They have plenty of draft capital for this year. So they can trade Laughton at next year’s deadline for a 26 pick. Ditto risto or just keep him around again. There are no young players banging down the door to make this roster except maybe luchanko. Andrea is a black hole in his own end. Loves what he does otherwise but he is not up to the challenge in his own end
At least keeping these players around will prevent briere from going out and signing dumb multi year deals to vets to fill their spots |

They could've moved him last year and now they need to take what they can get and continue moving along and away from they past few years' core. Second round pick seems fair depending on the team and where in the round they pick. - chienblanc
Was Laughton that much better last year that they would have received a great offer?

Legend of Laughton continues.
Freidman podcast.
Laughton- Big price. not sure if they are serious. Said got a 1st last year (turned it down obviously). Feels if they do trade him they want to do right by him and trade him to a place he is comfortable with. Very well liked. Laughton has told the Flyers he doesn't want to leave.
Risto - Torts publicly and privately has let it be known very bluntly he doesn't want to trade him. Friedman said all of a sudden Phila has bunch of Defenseman.
York - talked to him this year about an extension. Didn't go anywhere.
Said the Rangers setting up for something big. Philly is doing the same thing. Want to make an add that has significant impact for them. Have cap space. They are not saving it they want to use it. Still building but want to take a swing.
Goalies still uncertain.
