I think the reality of the 1st rd offered for Laughton included taking back a bad contract, same as Walker. They are really pushing hard the intangibles of a 30 yr old who has scored 40 points once. Hope it gets done, he isn't getting a 1st as a rental next deadlne.
Very telling a Stanley Cup winning GM gave up significant assets for 5 yrs of Seth Jones @ 7 million/yr. Torts can talk about the greatness of Risto all he wants, the league does not look @ 5.1 million for 2 years as a bargain as of yet. There is no need to leave Risto on PP. The PP still stinks and I would rather see Drysdale get the reps and see how he develops. Having a 30 yr old run a crappy PP. makes little sense. - Trox88
I dont see any correlation between Risto and Seth Jones. Jones is by far the better D plus it seems like FLA is anticipating Ekblad walking |

Per Friedman 32 Podcast
Laughton. So remember when we said earlier a couple months ago "it's a big price and I don't know if it means they're serious" and then someone called me and said "Remember, they held out a year ago for a 1st rounder and they got it" so I think you look at the prices right now and Laughton with another year of term, you know you can see it that they could potentially get it. I've heard Laughton's told the Flyers he doesn't want to leave, he'd prefer to stay, and I do think the Flyers would like to do right on him in the sense that "Where would you be interested in if we did send you somewhere? Is there a preference if this team answers our call?" You can't always do it, they'd like to do it, but I think he knows. I think he's been prepared for this, it's pretty obvious. And he's liked. You know, there's no question about that.
You know we'll see about some of the other names there. Ristolainen publicly and privately, Tortorella has been very blunt about he doesn't like the idea of them losing him. We talked about Sylvain Lefebvre [earlier on the podcast], Brad Shaw the assistant coach in Philly, he's excellent defensive coach and he's worked his magic here.
You know who's also had a big step here is Jamie Drysdale. And obviously he's not going anywhere, but I wanted to credit Shaw for that. All of a sudden Philly has a bunch of D and I think people have kind of wondered what this means for the future of all of this. They talked to Cam York about an extension this year, it it didn't go anywhere and we'll see where it goes. I think in goal too, Fedotov had a great night against the Jets. I think that's uncertain for them and I don't know if they solve that now behind Ersson or if they figure it out later what they want to do there.
But you know I think you can expect in some point in time Philly again, they're going to try to enter, when we talk about New York, the Rangers, whatever they're doing now it's setting up to do something big, I think Philly thinks the same way. I think they'd like to make an add that has significant impact for them at some point. They have this cap space. They're not saving it, they want to use it. And I'll say this too, Konecny probably didn't play as much at the Four Nations as he wanted to, but it's still a big thing when you're picked to that team. Sanheim I thought had a really good tournament and I think it's going to do wonders for him going forward. I think you look at these guys and they're signed long term and they're Team Canada now and I don't think that's a small thing. Once you've had a taste of that and you understand that and you've seen what its like to get there and be there, it drives you if you're any kind of motivated player. I think both of those guys are like that, so I think they're building. It's still building, but I think they want to take a swing. |

You got to think Clarke is available. 7th D last game, 4th pair again at practice. It isnt as if he was struggling either. I thought he was playing well in Doughty absence. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
I think anyone is available if a team is willing to overpay. The Kings are in win now mode, and the Flyers have some pieces that LA might want, but not enough pieces to get them to give up Clarke. Maybe Laughton + Risto and a 1st round pick get's it done, but I would think the Flyers would have to take a contract back also. |

I believe if Clarke gets moved by LA, the return will be younger player on an NHL roster that will be under team control for awhile. Basically, that is what LA is giving up in Clarke.

Dreger has confirmed what I posted Earlier about Schenn. He is off the market. One less C on the market. Dreger also mentions Laughton will be even more in demand and could increase his value. |
