Parssinen will do

Really curious to see what this Smith trade looks like. Rangers can retain half and attach a pick and maybe get back something really solid if the market is that nuts.

this guy has the most unknown trade value, no idea what to expect

I think the important word here is "eventual". Maybe during summer or next deadline but I just don't see them trading him now...

It makes sense to wait till the summer when the cap jumps and teams have more cap space to make moves

One thing that is funny to me if you were to poll all ranger fans most would say Cuylle has been the rangers best forward all season and Kreider the worst

Quick look at the stats both have 17 goals with Kreider playing about 15 less games. Just shows what value Kreider still has to a team

Just seems like fans have really soured on the old guard no matter who it is. It’s tough to criticize Kreids tho because he gave us some doozies over the years. The hattrick in the 3rd period last year being the best moment maybe since the cup team. That was exhilarating

If they retain on him for 2-3 seasons, that’s a gold mine possibly in assets. To like a TB (where all the ex Rangers go)

One thing not mentioned a lot is that Rangers are only 6 points out of the third spot. Currently, Rangers are tied for the last Wild Card by points, but Detroit has a game in hand (so they are listed in that position). Thing is, if they do not get a point in this make up game, Rangers vault over them due to Regulation Wins. In fact, no team looking at the WC is even close to them in RWs.
- mames11

After their Dec. 23rd afternoon 5-0 shutout loss in NJ during Christmas week, the Rangers deficit to the Devils rose to 16 points. The NYR were (16-17-1), & NJD (23-11-3) after that game remembered also, (though off the ice), for Devils' organization antics mocking Rangers fans during it & the Rangers themselves after it.

Since then & through March 3rd, the NYR have made up 10 of those 16 pts., in having gone (15-9-3), to NJD (10-12-3); (including making up 2 of their back then 3 games in hand on NJ). The Rangers are also tied now with the Devils with each having 29 Regulation Wins, (in being the 1st tiebreaker for final standings position).

You're correct per the Rangers huge lead in Regulation Wins when compared to both current Eastern WC teams, & every team trailing. The Rangers have 7 more RW than each current WC team (CBJ & DET.), (but both have 1 game in hand on NYR). They also have 6 more RW than the Senators who they lead now by 1 pt., but also having played 1 more game than the Sens; with Saturday afternoon's matchup in Ottawa being of greatest importance for now. In addition, all 6 other WC hunt teams below the Sens have a minimum of 8 fewer RW than the Rangers, (down to PIT. 13 less).

Smith is about to be a 34 year UFA. I don’t see a seller like Buffalo having any interest
- TPC

I agree TPC, but word has Drury speaking significantly with Buffalo & Seattle for help up front & on the backline. He has also scouted Buffalo heavily in assigning scouts to their games both prior to & after the "Four Nations" break, including as recent as last Thursday's in Carolina I'm aware of for now.

I included Buffalo as a possible team Drury may have offered Smith to, though just as one piece in order to complete a larger size trade with them. This should he need a specific amount remaining of Smith's $3.75M cap hit picked up by Buffalo (for also some additional piece sent to them), to complete a larger size potential trade.

Drury is likely not satisfied with any offers coming from others, along with the amount of cap they may want him to retain on Smith. I also mentioned earlier that an agreed upon trade with a Canadian team was already nullified by Smith this past weekend. Vegas was where experts felt he would end up. But they only received a 2024 3rd Rounder from PIT. when they acquired him in June of 2023. With Smith's production haven fallen further, maybe Drury is only being offered a 4th Rounder for him, but two drafts likewise ahead in 2026.

Why would Buffalo trade for Reilly Smith? That makes no sense in any fashion. I'm not trying to be insulative, but the Sabers trading for Smith doesn't make any sense unless they do it today and flip him to another team in the coming days with hopes to get a better deal than they offered NYR.
- mames11

Not trying to be insultive, that's the first time I've ever seen that word, so had to look it up. Again, not digging on you, but immediately thought of this,
And, to your point, no way the Sabres trade for Smith.

He's been constantly (and currently) injured this season so I don't see a team looking to go deep in the playoffs trading for him. This would be a move over the summer if it happens. Seems Drury has a Dolan-shaped bug up his butt to remake the core.
