If only they had a 2nd line

one has to wonder when they will fix that. not like it's a new thing.

well they added Laine, Dach and Newhook in the last few years, it is what is.

Demidov should help right away, but somebody will have to play centre.

I hope it's on HuGo's priority list this summer ... we don't need anymore draft picks, time to trade some.

Demidov on left wing.
they need a center.
Dach and Laine will each play 40 games on RW (and 40 games on IR). and that will be their last season in MTL.
so they'll need a RW too.

its a rebuild, its normal they dont have all the pieces just yet.

They did not even have a first line before Slaf started to pick his game up, so at least they have a legit first line. They may have found a true number one defenseman this season with Hutson as well and that is huge.

its a process

We will see what they can do at the draft. Laine need somebody to drive his line, he is not that guy.

Adam French told me Demidov is a centre, there is that.

Monahan had a great season before his injury by the way.

Laine needs someone to drive him to the airport

True ... Rome wasn't built in a day.

Compared to when Bergy left, we now have nice pieces in the system to build with. I'm sure some of them will be dealt so that we get the final pieces that we need.

... as my father used to say, he's slower than molasses in January.

Great shot but we need more than that.

I would not be surprised if they deal Mailloux this summer, not that his value must be all that high.

Reinbacher and Demidov are coming up next season, Hague will follow. They have 2 first round picks in 2025, good assets to have in a rebuild. Maybe they will get something for Laine around next year TDL, if not before that? They will have to make a decision on Matheson at some point as well. Too bad Ghule cant stay healthy.

big summer for Hughes, where his only 2nd line player is a 19 y/o russian rookie.
the others (Dach and Laine) are always injured, and even when healthy they're not top6 material imo. not on a good team.

maybe they will get your boy Bennett.

Again, this is a rebuild, all of this is normal.

I don't know who they will get but they better get someone and fast.
they cannot wait to draft and develop an entire 2nd line, Suzuki could turn 40 by the time they are ready. lol
time to sign a UFA and/or trade some picks for real top6 talented players, not maybe's like Dach and Newhook.

I'm curious how Oliver Kapanen will adapt to North America ... he's a centreman as far as I know.

However, I don't think he's ready for the NHL yet ... but I also said that about Lane Hutson before the season. So what do I know?

from what I read he's a bottom6 guy, like Evans and Beck.

I dont think neither Beck or Kapanen are top 6 guys. Hague has a better shot down the road, but thats not a sure thing either.

They can trade one if not both of their first round picks this summer for a young C, but you need another GM to make that deal.

I hope HuGo realises that the Dach experiment at center didn't work ... he's a liability out there and as you said he's always injured.

We need a real centreman for Demidov next year ... that should be on top of their TODO list.

worse case scenario, they'll start next season with Laine Demidov Dach as their 2nd line. but that will be for 1 season only. both Laine and Dach will be on their last contract year, and I really doubt they'll be back. maybe not a bad thing, that would give 1 extra year to Hage to develop before joining the team.
but yes, they'll need someone else.

I could see Laine coming back if he takes a pay cut and they find a god damn centre for that 2nd line. I wont be surprise if they put Demidov in that spot sooner rather than later. Laine is a major threat on the pp and if they put some skills around him he should be fine, at least when he plays.

tbh I've seen enough. he's a PP specialist with a great shot. and that's it. absolutely not reliable at 5x5 and like you say shows up even less than Kovalev did.
they could buy him out this summer for all I care. I'd prefer them to give Heineman a shot on that line.

The Habs did not play a bad game, the Flames just played slightly better.

Another good game by Dobes.
