I'm not sure what buttons Berube has to push to get this team back on track but aside from a victory against Chicago, I don't think they've played a good game that they really deserved to win since they beat Calgary before the 4 Nations cup.

From the build of the team and the general consistency of the goaltending there's a lot to like - but they still haven't put it together. I'd speculate because some of the players really aren't playing his style all that well - he needs more buy-in and he needs to be one of them so he can lead by example. I don't like Berube's dump-in by default style because he don't have the bruising and crashing wingers to retrieve those pucks on dump-ins and I don't like that the team has the opportunity to gain the line without dumping the puck in and still dumps it in way too often. But if the coach has a style you need to play to it.

Berube is an overrated coach. He deserves credit for winning his Cup but he did it with a certain set of tools that he doesn't have here. It's exactly why the Leafs need to add Parayko and a solid shutdown 3C. Getting these guys to play his style is important for the playoffs but he needs some more guys that naturally suit the style or share the load.

Not that I think Tavares should wear the C any more, and as much as I thought Matthews should have it....he seems like a worse C?!

Missed most of the game because there was a fire in the house beside us (I poop you not). I heard the fire alarm in their house (they were out) and wife called police as we saw no smoke / fire but were worried maybe it was a Co2 alarm and police came, pried open a sliding door and smelled smoke and called Fire Dept.

Pot left on stove - they ran a line into the house and opened it up, I would imagine a lot of water damage and it still reeks of smoke outside.

Then I had a 10pm hockey game vs my younger brother. It was similar to the Leaf game and I"ll leave it at that.
