To be fair, last time they did that type of overpay for time gamble "knowing" the cap is going up, they ended up in cap hell for eternity during the pandemic cap freeze with the core-4.

The flip side is that when they did it with Willy on his last deal for several of the seasons of that deal he was paid fairly or underpaid for what he was contributing.
He scored > 30 goals twice and scored 40 goals twice and was paid 6.9M all 4 of those years.
It's nice when the gambles pay off! I feel like I'd be wiling to gamble that Knies will work out if they lock him up for a lengthy term.
