Another group sex assault investigation. 8 players from 2014 Mississauga Steelheads. No big names on that team really though. - TurdFergeson
One of those names was pretty front and centre in the last investigation and has been playing in the KHL since. |

I don't want Tre to go "all in" this year, I feel like that's a recipe for disaster and as others have said Tampa can do it and the fans won't riot because they have cups - plural - in recent years. Teams who have made the huge trades and given up what many said is too much to try that approach fail far more often than they succeed.
In Toronto if Tre goes all in and fails and this team is set back years &/or the moves squander their "window" Leaf fans will lose their poop.
I thought many agreed before this year started that it was a bit of a m'eh year to be expected for the Leafs anyhow with JT's contract still on the books so what's changed?
Yes they have looked better than in prior years and yes as a Leafs fan of course I want them to win a cup but I also want to keep a realistic set of expectations and for me those haven't varied much from the pre-season.
I would like to see them make progress with their post season success but I'm not thinking this is the team that is built for the cup and is just one or 2 pieces away from being the best team in hockey and willing to sell the farm to obtain those pieces.
Of course you can get lighting in a bottle and guys can suddenly become something they haven't been before but that's pretty unpredictable.
To me that work happens this summer and what they do with Marner is part of that equation. How much they pay him if he stays vs if they are willing to move on from him if his ask is too much (for the Leafs to do what they want to do in the other areas of their roster (nevermind what all of us in here thing as being too much for him) etc.
Maybe that's just me? |

Seattle should turn around and use these picks to acquire other young players. Similar to the capitals when they traded Orlov and then used that 1st for Sandin. - Aaron_85
Or even better, trade Larsson to the Leafs |

TB can win another cup and then trade everyone for picks the fans crave so much... all the picks.. Kucherov would get a boat load. then fans can swim in all the draft picks - senstroll
Weird how most of these guys think if you trade picks you can never get picks back
Tampa might not be doing it perfectly but they are doing it. Gourde and Bjork would've been great for the Leafs. But Leafs always go half way.
Trading picks/prospects for aging rentals...NO. Trading picks and prospects to stack the line up with talent with term while on a Cup run....YES.
Trade every pick and prospect for guys with term to get Cup ready. After you win a few Cups trade some of those players for picks and prospects.
The time to have a bare cupboard is now. |

I don’t mind if they go all in for a real difference maker. Either that or some tinkering and bigger moves in the summer. Avoid overspending on someone who’s kinda good. |

It's only a disaster if they spend the prospects and draft picks to get rental UFAs.
If they bring in a solid player with term who fills an area of need, like Parayko, it doesn't destroy their window of opportunity.
Shanahan is on an expiring contract and the Leafs have been, at times, 1st in the division. The East is rather weak this year. It could be the year of opportunity if they make the right additions. And adding players with term still helps them succeed next year and beyond if they fall short this year.
With Tavares being a UFA, the Leafs can afford to add 6-8 million for a RHD like Parayko and then Tavares can either take what he's worth (less than 6) or he can walk as a UFA and the Leafs and sign somebody else younger or cheaper. The Marner contract will be expensive but the Leafs will have plenty of cap space to fit him in. |

I'm not thinking they should go in but also it's the right time to take a shot. They've committed to a very aging defence core who is all signed long term. There should be shots taken to a degree as that's inevitably going to go down hill.
I'd have no problem with a prospect like Cowan being on the table, along with firsts. But wouldn't want to see Minten go out, kid has Stevie Y feels to me. |

Agreed, this isnt Toronto's only window year.
This off season, they can remake the leafs. I think Florida resigns Bennett but not eklad. Marner or Rantanen (if hes available and wanted to sign in Toronto).
Ehlers, boeser and Chychrun could also be available.
Lots of opportunity to change the look, specially if marner and JT walk. |

Fair to the folks who replied to me - sure take a shot, just don't sell the farm and go all in / bare cupboards or move guys like Knies etc. now is my stance.
See how this playoff goes and see what you (Tre) thinks is missing or needs to be changed and then make your big moves.
I'm sadly not convinced that (and yes I know many here have been saying this for years and I have not subscribed to this but my patience has grown thinner than previously) THIS core is the right make up and it's the parts around the core that have are where the changes are needed. The non core parts are bigger parts like goaltending or smaller ones like 4th line and even 3rd line forwards or D pairings but those tweaks can generally be accomplished without a huge move.
I consider Morgan Reilly part of that core as well as Matthews, Marner, Willy and JT if that helps explain what I'm saying.
Guess as always time will tell but I'm not sure this Leaf team is a Colton Parynko or another Tanev away from being a cup winning team but I'd love nothing more than to be PROVEN wrong by the Leafs. |

Yes, "almost" bare cupboards because they half ass it all the time....Foligno and RoR come to mind.
It's time to go all in, get talent with term for whatever picks they have and throw in Cowan, Minten, Niemela, Danforth, Rielly, Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok, Robertson, Holmberg, McMann....whatever it takes to upgrade slots or not have any holes on the roster.
If Marner won't sign, trade him end of season for rights and get something back. Sign Rantanen immediately after.
IMHO. |

Dangle 13.5M x 8 for Marner, if he doesn’t take it then lower the term.
The Leafs miss the playoffs without Mitch, they don’t let him walk. Berube absolutely (frank)ing loves him. Uses him in all situations. |
