It actually hasnt gone sour at all, yet. In fact, there's potential for it be very good.

I didn't mind the trade, but this quote from Servalli is pretty funny, lol.

"On the surface, this is arguably the dumbest hockey trade that's been executed in the last 25 years. These two teams that are so far out of it shouldn't even be allowed to call each other when it comes to the trade deadline. I'm not even kidding."

Frank is a Dubas and Crosby hater so it makes sense.

Reaves on waivers. LOL

Didn't realize it, but actually a good CAP space move.

Unfortunately Reaves is washed. It would have been awesome if he still had some talent to pair him with Imama on a line and let the chaos commence.

Some updates.
Rantanen is getting some interest from some non-playoff teams interested in signing him to an 8 year deal. If he gets moved there are a few whispers they may look into Karlsson at the deadline. It is quiet on him.

Schenn is probably staying unless we get a really good offer.

Hayes is getting some interest following the Novak deal one team who called is NJ.

Ottawa not interested in Karlsson until potentially after the season, but has been very much interested in Beau.

Sullivan wants us to keep Grzelcyk so there is some internal conflicts on if we will trade him or not.

San Jose has some ties to Jarry. Which is the craziest buzz.

Also a few teams have called about Pickering. He could be moved, but only in a hockey trade.

Trading for Rantanen makes no sense for Pittsburgh.

1) We are trying to lose
2) No promise he resigns
3) If you really want him, sign him for free in a few months
4) If he wants an 8 year deal, trade for him at the draft
5) Cant justify giving up assets for this scenario

I've been saying Jarry to SJ for a while. They have Askarov long term but they are going to need a vet to pair up with him... might as well get some assets to fill that position with all of the cap space they have.

Ottawa are just cheap asses and they are willing to wait until they miss the playoffs and we pay the signing bonus for Karlsson. Not surprised there.

I like Gryz too... he has turned into a really solid guy. He is old though so not sure how long they want to extend him for. Not opposed to it, especially considering that at the moment we have no other competent LD's.

The rumor was if they move Rantanen, they may use the space for Karlsson.

I wouldn't mind bringing Gryz back next year, but I'd still trade him this year if they can at least add a third.

I think the Pens should aim for 26-27 to start being competitive again.

1) 26 has a better top end with a franchise player. Pens could still use one more top pick to pair with this ones, then hope they hit on some of the other prospects. And I think some of the other worst teams this year are further along their rebuilds and more likely to move forward.

2) We don't have many good prospects that are 100% ready to start next year, but the rookie class this year of McGroarty, Murashov, Pickering, Koivunen, and Broz should start getting call ups next year and be ready for 26 as the first wave of youngsters with enough combined talent to start making a difference.

3) Salary cap clears up for the Pens. Vets like Hayes, Schenn, Ned, Accairi, Jack Johnson, Heinen, all come off the roster (along with Geno) giving them some cap space to work with, especially if they get more one year guys this year.

My biggest complaint about Dubas is he hasn’t been good enough at reigning in Sullivan. The most important thing a GM can do is put the org above the coach. Gryz 100% needs to be traded. He’s at max value, maybe even more so than Rak.

Makes the most sense unless they could somehow get Marner.

If the Pens can get a core piece UFA like Marner they should consider it it because even if they got a top 5 pick this year and McKenna next year they still need more top end talent. But with Jarry and Ned as our goaltending duo and this defense, I'm sure we would still lose even if adding a Marner, just a little less.

They should go hard after Marchand imo too. Make Sid happy and help keep his points up, especially if they trade Rakell

I could see us going after Marner and Tavares. Dubas seems to go after people he knows.

As for Rakell there is some talk about Anaheim being interested and of course all the previous teams we have discussed.

I personally wonder if Vancouver might be aggressive and make some moves

So how did Carolina trade for Rantanen without the complete confidence they would be signing him? Swapping out your scoring leader for a guy you can't keep seems like a complete faceplant. If Dubas did something like that...

We'd differ there. I'd take Marner or someone like him in that's still in their 20s, but not someone in their mod to late 30s. Get someone who would still be in their prime for the first several years of their younger core.

I'd also priorize a top pairing defenseman if they can find one because those take longer to develop.

Dubas is done. Got Tomasino 2.0 and a decent D man who is really good at fighting so Sullivan will hate him.
