Together they cost the Leafs 11.75 AAV this year and 15 AAV next year. Don't think it's possible unless Matthews goes on LTIR and Tavares is gone next year.

Future intelligent GMs will add a penalty clause to trades whereby if a team trades players back into the Division / Conference there is compensation.

He's declining. Production down. I get there's more to his play than just the points but when you're trying to find a player to help you win in the playoffs and add additional scoring...getting a guy with 11 goals in 70 something playoff games can't possibly be the answer. That and his contract going forward won't age well.

I agree with this. Laughton, Tanev, depth D (I'm convinced Dubas traded for Schenn so the Leafs couldnt) and off we go.

Who is available that is realistically going to make that happen? There's no one. Wasting their blue chip pieces just for the sake of making a deal is dumb. Add some depth, imo.
