Well that's the selling pitch.
The reality pitch is a hugely overpaid guy who doesn't give a poop with a long-term contract that fits like cement overshoes (I never liked the guy )
... and yeah, I don't expect Vancouver entertains that offer because obviously someone would offer more, but I expect they want him gone. - Aetherial
Besides, we have enough expensive players that underachieve when it counts. Not interested in more. |

Ya. Why would van trade their best player with a long term contract (who's gone through a rough year) for a slightly overpaid 3rd liner, and a $7.5m dman who's been absolutely horrible the past several years....outside of one round of playoffs two years ago.
If Im Van, offer EP for Rant...give Rant $14.5m - Fakepartofme
its out there that they were possibly looking to trade him
I think Rielly, Domi (makes the cap work) plus a prospect like Minton is fair for a player with a decent cap hit that comes with a lot of questions and risk.
the perception of Rielly is probably not as bad as we make it. he has almost as many points as EP |

Ya maybe.
Either way, i wouldn't want the leafs to on the cap hit with a player who has that mamy questions around his performance....and who also seems to quit on his team |

I heard someone on the radio the other day saying that with the cap going up so high - so fast, big market teams will have a bit of an advantage again, because many smaller market teams can’t/won’t spend to the ceiling. - Atomic Wedgie

Mtl is only 1 point out of wildcard. Not sure why they would looking to trade him. |

Retention would obviously be part of the deal. Or, perhaps, we can flip them back Domi. |

They're currently at 14.8% to make the playoffs and Savard is UFA. It would be silly for them to not try to collect assets / be a seller.
I don't buy the rumours that the Habs are looking to make a "hockey trade" either. |

Those years that they wasted pre cap were because they rarely drafted their own players as they traded most of their picks and any prospects they did have for old veteran players at TDL. Never truly built a team from within it seemed....also their scouts were horrible.
But I will say this, the 2004 lockout year when the leafs had Francis and Leetch with Nieuwe, Nolan and Mogilny would have been one the best leafs teams we would have seen. I think they would have gone 4 rounds for sure.
I still hate the NHL for ruining that year. - Fakepartofme
Did we have Francis and Leetch under contract?
My hazy memory is that they were rentals only. |

Yes I believe so.
When we got Leetch, he had another year on his contract. |

For the probable price, Savard is likely the best option, as sad as that is.
With any luck, maybe the cost comes down on Risto and Laughton, kinda plugs some holes for us. |

Why didn't Tre waive Reaves a week ago, and make his move earlier? Seems like he got caught with his pants down and is now scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Or, he makes a big swing and gets Rantanan at the last second, (as a rental only, of course. He seems like a high maintenance douche). |
