Sorry Cush, disagree. Marner is the better player. - Aetherial
We can disagree it’s ok (no matter what Marner’s biggest fan/stalker says). 🤣
I guess it depends on what else you have. Rants played way heavier (as someone else said) and the Leafs lack that.
Both are incredible players but Rants is a proven playoff contributor AND WINNER.
Marner hasn’t led this team to anything close to what Rants has.
It’s a moot point now as Rants is a Star for a long time. I just hope Shanny and Tre leverage the Rants contract when negotiating with Marner because IMO they are comparable players. |

No but I can blame Marner for being a shell of himself and supposed leader curling up in the fetal position come playoffs.
If Marner can bring what we all know he can into the playoffs give him a blank check, but until he does he’s not worth the price tag if he can’t do it come playoff time. - bryant

Opinions are like bumholes. Everyone's got one. You know what Rants has that Marner doesn't?
A Stanley Cup.
And some of the best playoff scoring stats in history. - fifty__missions

Agree with everything here they are different players but Rant is a big strong heavy point producer.. If I were the Leafs I would trade Rant for Marner if it was offered...

Ya I’d make that trade too, Rant has won a cup and wasn’t just a passenger a la Patty Maroon and to me that’s huge.
Like I said though nice to see the bar being set in advance of Marner’s negotiations being in high gear. 👍 |

Leafs got hosed going all in on the wrong players.
They got better but not enough to justify what they gave up. Silver lining is no rentals.
But didn't improve more than the Panthers. |

He’s a warning.
This is Berube and Tre sending a message to the rest of the team. Play hard and defend yourselves out there. |

What’s everyone’s grade on Tre’s deadline at this point in time?
Fully Acknowledging the grade could swing big time if the new guys bomb or excel.
For me it’s an A right now.
I factor in retention and term on both deals, Carlo being a 28 yr old RHD with a good to great shot.
Losing 1st round picks hurts but not for awhile and if you do it right very little (see Lighting, Tampa Bay). |

His great shot has earned him one 1 (one) goal this year.
They got him because he’s a pure stay at home that will clear the front of the net. |

The price points were excessive but did a really good job filling their needs and ensuring it wasn't just for a one year window.
Not many GMs pay that deadline price and come out of it well set up for more than just the one year.
Still blows to see them make moves that need to get made and know the leafs are still in a division that will have to go through a Florida team with Bennett, Tkachuk and Marchand. What a painful series that would be 🤦
Got to respect Floridas moves. |

I would say B+. He did pretty well, considering how little assets and cap money he had. |

I think many (me included) maybe had a crush or had fallen in love with Grebenkin the character but we didn’t really know the player yet.
I loved the kid for his sound bites and enthusiasm tho - for me he was like a Grabo meets roookie Ovie (like when he got his howl in one). Lol |

He is likable guy with good personality, but nobody knows what kind of player he could be. He has some Wilson vibe in him, but without Wilson's skills. |

And he has a deadly look, so not many want to make him too angry.
Only can wish him good luck, when he is not playing against Leafs. |

I think we’ll beat Florida. Tkachuk is injured and Marchand is far removed from the player that he used to be. |

And can actually show up in the playoffs.
Do we remember how Marner needed to fleece the leafs for his "bonus" money he never got on his ELC? Well he somehow made 1.5 million more per year than Rantanen for 6 years.
Time to pay it back, Marner can sign at 8 x 10.5 or beat it to SJ. |
