God I hope Lou takes most of your asses on the draft table with him this year. My God what a help it will be for him!

They actually finished better than I thought they would. Unfortunately.

With that said I can’t believe anyone thought this team would compete this year. Even internet GM’s could see that wasn’t going to happen.

At this rate could it be any worse? Reminds me of that time they used a dart board to pick stocks vs some guru and the random dart board was more successful. Point being, the staff (way before Lou entered) are responsible for Bergenheim, Robert Nilsson > Zach Parise, Nokelianen, O’marra, Bailey, Niedereitter, Strome, Reinhardt, Dal Colle, Bellows, Wahlstrom, etc etc. That’s not even including the 2nd, 3rd and later round picks that the isles hold the title of “least amount of NHL players playing who the isles drafted”. To defend the indefensible is a head scratcher. It’s nothing against Lou, but after 6-7 years to regress this much whereby Bridgeport now holds the record for worst record, is being slightly “homerish”.
The craziest part of all the above mentioned names is that with all those misses, one can make an argument that us lamens could have a similar or better result.
Bottom line…..it ain’t workin.

Haven't unearthed a valuable player in later rounds since 2014 when they took Sorokin in the 3rd round and Toews in the 4th round.

2015 - nobody after Barzal/Beauvillier in the 1st round
2016 - Entire draft was a bust
2017 - Entire draft was a bust
2018 - Dobson at 12 and nothing else, including their other 1st rounder
2019 - Nobody after the 1st round. Holmstrom improving and looking to be, at worst, a middle-6 winger
2020 - No picks until 3rd round, Jeffries may have some potential but otherwise nothing
2021 - Nothing really so far
2022 through 2024 - Incomplete - not enough time has passed to fairly evaluate the picks. George looks promising and Quinn Finley has potential, but remains unsigned and is going back to Wisconsin for his junior year

Clicking on that link brought me Otto Koivula, Robin Salo, Ville Pokka, Corey Trivino, Aaron Ness, Ruslan Iskahov, Josh Hosang, Bode Wilde. Just straight up Bustville.
Honorable mention to the Kirrils…..still waiting for them.

And that's across two different GM's. It's not all on just one of them, but the rest of the hockey ops staff needs to get gassed because a lot of them have been around for a long time.

Isles one of 11 teams with a bonus overage for next season. Currently $600k, could rise to $850k if Tsyplakov is named to the all-rookie team in June

Guy had arguably one of the coolest careers ever. Not necessarily in an individual way, but on the winning side of arguably the greatest moment in sports history, wins Olympic Gold a few days later, then steps directly into the NHL and rips off four straight Cups

Probably why he’s still employed. But, what have you done for me lately…

He's closer to the least of of their issues, as the director of pro scouting, in my book. I have many more problems with guys like Klatt and Cairns who are responsible for drafting and developing those draft picks, respectively.

Great Islander, but yeah...it's time to separate the feelings for a former player vs. results as a director in the hockey ops department.
