Neal Pionk, who is four years older than Dobson, recently signed a six-year extension with the Winnipeg Jets that will see him earn $7M annually. Pionk is coming off the second-best offensive season of his career, putting up identical numbers to Dobson.
If they sign Dober, it should either be 3 or 5... Nothing longer than 5. I would go 6.5 per maximum.
Yep, Lou has to go. It will only get worse if he stays on.
Let him go with dignity. Let him say he's retiring if he wants to, but just let him go. I will take my chances with an unknown rather that knowing what Lou will continue to do.

EDIT....
I know but league standards he is entitled to max monies and term. However, they could give him a qualifying offer. Go to arbitration. He signs a one yr deal in his last year as RFA and you gamble on his UFA year. You either sign him or move him.
Interesting that Duclair wasn’t at the exit meetings. I wonder what happens contractually if he leaves the team with games remaining…..does he forgo the paychecks? (Serious question). Not going to clean out his locker or meet with management is strange. Something has to give…
Good read, thanks for sharing. Yes Lamoriello in the 90s and 2000s built the devils from the goalie out. But, his Devils back end was far superior than the isles defense of today. Who’s our Scott Neidermeyer or Scott Steven’s? The best line of the article was that Lou traded offensive talent to procure a backend, except that backend is mediocre at best.
When the isles drafted Pulock all we heard about was how heavy his shot is. Why isn’t that utilized on the PP?

I would like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. While we all know that there was interaction between him and Roy. There may be more to the story than he took his ball and went home because the coach yelled at him and made him an example. He may be dealing with some personal issues that we do not know about.

Regardless I am sure it will be sorted out. - Nfdbulldawg
Agreed and I really wasn’t questioning his leaving. It was more of a contractual question, I.E does he still get paid after leaving the team?

Not really sure what these contracts are setup like. I do not know if these even guys get sick days.

My biggest issue with Dober is consistency. - Nfdbulldawg
They either need to commit to Dobson long-term or move him this summer, I don't see any other path. Going to arb and having him sign a 1 year deal leaves them with their backs against the wall and a ton of risk of losing him for nothing.
Elliotte Friedman mentioned on 32 Thoughts that recently Scott Malkin has become more involved, and that his opinion on the team will determine their direction, he may wonder “where are we going” Friedman noted.
Could be some big changes coming to the island. 🤷♂️

My morning commute ended before Friedman got to the Islanders, very interested to hear that on my way home today. But hopefully something meaningful is coming.

One thing that I think is a positive regarding real change happening is that now the ownership (Malkin) is involved. Whether a GM wins or loses, he still gets salaried. Conversely the buck stops with the ownership, and their attendance has dropped every year. A brand new arena should be packed, with hockey, concerts etc. The ownership can’t be happy with multiple years of decline, that affects their asset. We shall see….but I think there’s gonna be a major overhaul.

It's definitely good news, but I hope it's not wait-and-see fact finding mission that is going to take a year or two before they finally come to the decision that the organization needs a massive overhaul. The ticket sales speak for themselves, the on-ice product should too. As well as ownership seeing guys like Engvall and Mayfield get benched after the team made long-term commitments to them.
I don't know what's going to happen, but Malkin getting involved definitely isn't a bad sign.
FYI: this is the relevant clip, starting at 48:00 even if for some reason it doesn't start up there
Absolutely none of that sounds to me like Lou is going anywhere, which sucks - Gabe Athaus
I would have to agree. It sounds like Ownership is going to have decisions to make more on the players as to who is going and staying verses changes in management.
Whole world knows the Islanders are (frank)ing up if they keep Lou around. Except, seemingly, the two guys that matter - Gabe Athaus
Keep embarrassing these owners. Fans have to threaten not to renew season tickets if Lou come back. Ritchie is going to fix everything including the defense. No pressure kid
#Isles News: The New York Islanders organization announced today that Lou Lamoriello's contract as President and General Manager will not be renewed. Effective immediately, Operating Partner John Collins will lead a search to find the next General Manager.
