I doubt it. I think Marner’s position has always been to push for as much as he can get and to use the threat of free agency to help. The only questions are whether he’d really walk and how high the Leafs would have to go to keep him.

Laughton and Carlo make the Leafs better however they didn't get the best players or the best value for what they gave up.

The prospects and the draft picks don't matter as much at this stage of their "window of opportunity" however the Leafs now have almost nothing left to trade to make their team stronger.

The Leafs really badly needed a Parayko type (hitter, with a PP slap shot) more than Carlo. And the assets they just gave up no longer exist to make that type of trade happen. Carlo is an improvement just not a big enough of one.

Laughton isn't good enough to replace Tavares going forward as the 2C and his 3C abilities are rather questionable. He seems more of a LW than a C with his FOs being under 50% and he's on the ice for a lot of EVGA. He's a hometown kid who throws hits but he gives the puck away a lot more than he takes it away. He kills some penalties. He's going to have to prove he's a lot better than he's shown the last couple of years. Feels like a bigger version of Domi which is not horrible but not great either.

They have to hope they can make some noise in the playoffs and then maybe sign Ekblad as a UFA because it seems as though Florida went all in for this year and will use Jones as a cheaper replacement going forward.

The question also has to be asked, "Why didn't Treliving acquire Rantanen from Colorado?". If he was willing to give up the entire farm and give him an extension why did he ever get traded to Carolina in the first place? Isn't Treliving supposed to be the GM who calls every GM constantly to listen to everybody?

This deadline was a C+ relative to what we gave up, what we acquired and what our direct competitors did. I see Florida as the A+ winner of the deadline, taking their already Cup winning team and added Jones, Marchand and Sturm. That's a top tier improvement for selling the farm.
