I read somewhere that Mitchy wants $13M x 8.

Seems reasonable given the talent.

It makes no sense. Rantanen is absolutely not what this team needs. He's 6'4, 215 and has thrown fewer hits than Marner. He falls at the drop of a hat - and if you really want to look at who he compares to on the Leafs - it's Nylander - but with Michael Bunting's balance. I guess if the Leafs just want more straight shooters, then good - but Rantanen doesn't even PK. I don't know.
- Monkeypunk

Ya its why i dont believe the leafs were really willing to exchange marner for rant. It was more of add rant to marner and team.

Why do people throughout the internet want to spell our captain's name "Matthew's"?
- Atomic Wedgie

That’s the way it comes up on spellcheck? I’d guess that’s why?

If he makes the same as Matthews, the Leafs will be fine.

Leading goal scorer and leading point producer making the same cap hit is reasonable.

Maybe but the supply of elite wingers hitting free agency has now been reduced to one. Mitch knows he’s going to get paid after July 1. Is there a number that works for him and Tre before them.
- Canada Cup

Two.

That's the number of black eyes Mitch is going to get if he doesn't sign the goddamned contract.

Ford was probably never going to go through with it....just bs to get votes.
- Fakepartofme

Apparently he got the U.S. Sec of Commerce to meet to discuss possible a possible renegotiation of the trilateral trade deal before the April 2nd imposition of tariffs. Ford agreed to suspend electricity surcharge pending the outcome outcome of that meeting.

Curious to know if Dougie is freelancing, if any federal officials are going to be there. I get the impression he’s setting himself up for the CPC job once Pierre flames out.

Kind of a poor reason to resign the guy I'd think.

From all of this scenario, Tre found out one tidbit of info.

MM has no intention of leaving the TML.

Should give Tre a bit of leverage, I'd think.

Leafs have come to a number to keep him. Ball will be in MM's court.

I agree. I hope they have a number and stick to it. I very well may not like that number but I do think MLSE needs to start to go full Shorsey and set the tone for current and future negotiations because they are not viewed as a team who will let big name guys walk ever.

Does anyone remember the last player who walked from Toronto because they wouldn’t pay what the player wanted?

I can’t. Initially I thought Sundin but he and the Leafs mutually agreed he wouldn’t re-sign so I’m not sure that’s the same at all.

Marner made it clear he wasnt talking contract throughout the season. Apparently, the leafs tried to get things going but there was no movement. I dont think the leafs had any intention of moving marner for Rant.....it was posturing IMO. Apparently Canes inquired about Marner very early in the week last week. The Leafs had already moved on to a different offer for Rant on Friday, once the canes settled with Dallas, leafs, desparate to get something done, pivoted and tossed their load at Carlo and a 3rd line center.

Yeah, he’s going to be something of a pariah if he nixes a trade and then walks. Question is how much is that worth to him and take a deal from Tre

Trump: attacking a Tesla dealership will now be considered an act of domestic terrorism. Apparently, that’s far worse than Jan 6 patriots trying to overrun the U.S. Capitol

He regret it because he choked behind one of the best teams ever assembled. If he couldn't play in net behind that team, he had no hope of doing well in Toronto at 35+.
