I got a better question. Who would you rather have centering Marner, Matthews or MacKinnon?

McDavid.

Leafs have $27 million in cap space going into 2026-27 season. Defense is all signed up for next 2-4 years. Only big names on forward are Marner, JT, and Knies. If JT and MM want to leave on July1 so be it. Pretty sure we can get some UFA impact player to replace at least one of them and use the cap space to add another at 2026 TDL.

a player who makes players around him better…..Which Rantanen clearly doesn’t.

Got more moronic takes?

I think this was an empty threat to bring Marner back to the table. Asking him to waive him NMC is a reality check that he may not be as untouchable as his agent has told him he is. It wasn’t gonna happen, but this was a bluff-charge to see if Treliving can shave some $ off the AAV if Marner truly wants to remain in Toronto.

In my opinion Rantanen is more valuable. He's not far behind Marner skill wise and he brings so much more after that. Size, grit, competitiveness, clutch performer, plays with an edge, etc.
Marner is great but I'd much prefer Rantanen for everything he brings.

because, for whatever reason Leafs, their fans...there's a perception that Marner disappears in the playoffs (though his stats suggest otherwise)

And Raantonen is someone different. But the same. Same level of player. Not the McDavid, not the Matthews but their side kick. The Draisaitl....the Malkin....the second guy. And it just hasn't worked in the playoffs for T.O. And eventually the window will close on these superstars

True, interesting debate however not the original question being asked.

Opinion is not fact and there are lots of opinions on here.

Mine is that Marner's game is not suited for playoff hockey success. I think Rantanen's is although I will admit the impact of McKinnon on Mikko's playoff stats can't be overlooked.

I don't disagree with Draisaitl being the better offensive player, but Matthews is the better all-around player.

You can't deny Draisaitl's all world talent but I would like to see what he looks like playing on a team that doesn't have Connor McDavid.

I agree.
And I'm a Sens fan so I'm supposed to hate the Leafs. I'd take Matthews over Draisaitl. But at this point that's just opinion. Honey Crisp apple or Golden Delicious apple.

Rantanen
1.08 ppg Reg season
1.24 ppg playoffs

Marner
1.12 ppg Reg season
.87 ppg playoffs

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I appreciate your willingness to look past the Blue and White dislike, and I agree with you 100%.
