Why would this be their "all in" year? A lack of draft picks next year doesn't have any impact on their window for like 4 years or more. I know losing last night doesn't bode well for confidence but the way your talking they might as well not bother playing the games, good god it's a stretch of bad games get off the ledge man!
They have been battling for top spot in the division all season, they beat the Jets when nobody else had, they shut out Vegas in Nov, beat the Oilers in Nov, beat Tampa twice early in the season & again in Jan, beat the Oilers again in Feb.
My point is they have beaten good teams, March hasn't been good so far but they have been good more often than bad this year and it seems silly to me to say they way they have been for a couple weeks is 100% who they will be come playoffs.
Maybe I'm nuts but I think they can get back to being more like they have been more often than note this year - I guess we will see. It's easy to forget how they were (how good they were) not too long ago, the recent stinkers make it hard and I get that.
And as I said yesterday multiple times I am all in on a huge core shake up if they fail miserably again this year come playoffs but I'm not ready to say it's a sure thing they will based on what I have seen they are capable of. - Cush29
I dont care about last nights results, i dont live game to game and im nowhere near any ledge for this team. Not that invested. But yes moving two 1st and one of your top prospects are kinda all in moves.
As ive said all season, its all about the playoffs, but it would be nice if once, the leafs get themselves in a spot that takes the easier route in the playoffs.
We'll see, there is still time, onto to the next game. |

Kipper and Sammy on 590 said it best a few weeks ago. He looks (frank)ing tired. His face is long and looks off. Kipper said he has played with stars who go through funks of just not having fun going to the rink with mental issues.
He is visibly frustrated. They are playing him as much, even more than ever.
Medical staff and coaches are knowledgable...If you don't trust what the team says then the proof is in the pudding. His usage is way up and his shot speed and skating is back to normal since December. - Santo_44
Holy christ your source for ground truth is Nick Kypreos and "Sammy" from 590?
You may want to consider backing off ranting on here about anyone who dares to say Matthews may be hurt and your assertation that he is 100% healthy if that's the case super chief. |

Because they said he is healthy.
They are playing him every game and 25+ mins a game.
Pretty (frank)ing easy to understand he is healthy. As healthy as the rest of the league that goes through ailments all year as well.
"How the (frank) would you know?" to go against what the team is saying along with his usage. He is playing the 2nd most mins on average since 2019.
The "he is injured" crowd is getting annoying as (frank). He is playing bad to his standards, plain and simple. - Santo_44

Yeah well I’m not arguing anymore. Let’s just see what happens this spring. Last night was not a good sign. Perimeterville up front. - fifty__missions
My ground and pound game forced you to tap out.......just kidding.
Perimeterville up front last night for sure minus a couple guys (JT, Knies).
Having Marner on the point on PP1 doesn't help that as he doesn't have a hard shot, why can't the Leafs just get a dman who can rip it on the point on PP1 and create another threat? Marner isn't scoring from the point very often at all unless it's a seeing eye shot that's tipped.
Anyhow to your point - on to the next game.

Wasn't Nylander used on the point before?
Guy kept scoring on us with shots coming near the blueline as far as I can remember.

I don't remember that but maybe? They need someone who can rip it and to me a slap shot is what you want back there and that's not Willy's forte.

List of NHL defencemen who can still take a blistering slapshot from the point
*crickets* - Atomic Wedgie
Chychrun, Parayko and Bouchard have pretty good shots from the point.
But yeah, it feels like most would rather move the puck or send a well placed wrister nowadays. |

I actually think Myers has a good shot but I guess they wouldn't put a rookie on PP1.

I was just going to come say something similar. They don't really do that as a real threat anymore.

There's been a few good articles in the past couple of years about the death of the slapshot.
A combo of no time to wind up, and flexier sticks. |

It’s the lack of guile and unpredictability that kills our PP.
It’s just so captain obvious. |

Every team goes through a slump in the season... Leafs have been consistent for most of the season with no real slides.. Let's hope this is there 10 game weak part of the season. |

Yeah I've felt similar too. Better teams find ways to shut it down easier. It's so weird why these offensive players can't just freestyle it.
