Matthews is clearly not 100% and hasn't been almost all season. He flew to (frank)ing Germany to see a specialist. That's not something normally done for routine or minor poop.
Obviously the staff feels it's not bad enough to shut him down for the season, and I bet he gets surgery in the offseason.
How hurt is he exactly? Matthews at 75% is still a top line center on most teams.
Leafs need BIG PAPI at 100% gamebreaking strength to make a deep run.

I think the Flyers fans were right. Scott Laughton sucks. But is probably the best boy. |

They lost a close game - we must talk about blowing it up now.
This is the way. - Cush29
Theyve lost a couple of games now to good teams and if you are into analytics and what not, those numbers dont look good.
Again its only reg season, but this appears to be the leafs all in year. They have an aging dcore, no 1st round and only two second picks for the next 3 drafts.
So hopefully a team of "superstars" who havent been able to get their poop together in the playoffs the past 8 years finally get it together this year to beat a couple of teams that are better than them.
Its all good.
Hopefully the next two times we play the panthers, they are missing 4 star players or the goalie has a bad game |

Glad it was only a 1st rounder and mid to low prospect to acquire him.
Still early |

Kudos to Ottawa - they are pulling away for the 1st wildcard.
Looks like it's now just a race for 8th: Columbus, Habs, Rangers, Detroit. |

Ottawa made some great moves at TDL.
It would be really leafy to lose in 6 games to them in the 1st round.
Onto the next game. |

Probably not going to see this.
I guess Tampa could go into a horrible losing streak, and Ottawa becomes the 3rd seed in the Atlantic - which would be fun. |

Leafs core can’t get it done when it matters. Ever!! They have had the same core, working the power play, for years! Years! And they still have a crap pp. They’ve changed the pp coach a number of times, still crap. They’ve changed the coach, the GM, goalies, support player, you name it. The core is the common thread, and result. Glad they swung for the fence with Rantanen, but this team will never win anything, with this core. Tampa, Florida, Vegas, are aggressive and progressive and as a result, always winning. Leafs are about marketing not winning. |

Believe it or not, Matthews is still producing 1.12 PPG (23g 33a, +2, 20:30 TOI, 56.9% FO)
Those are top-line numbers on many teams, but I get your point. He's definitely not up to snuff and it shows. I imagine he would be in the Rocket or Ross conversation if he was 100% all season.

The goddamn Sens man, adding Cozens and Ullmark playing at an elite level at the right time sure is making a difference.
Should be a fun race until the end but it sure looks like only one spot will be up for grabs.

If Kucherov, Point, Hedman, or Vasi are hurt for any length of time, they are cooked. They aren't deep enough to lose any of those elite guys and still contend.

Whenever we're on a losing skid, it's pile-on time in here. All the cranky gramps come out of the wood work to spew their dusty bile all over these threads and I'm here for it 110%. |

He's a fine bottom 6 centre.
I'm not sure he's gonna one that truly makes a difference for the Leafs in the playoffs but he's not a bad pickup.
I'm more a fan of adding Carlo, I thought that was a very good addition, despite him having his worse season in a while (Like the Bruins mind you).

So tired of this narrative. He is healthy the dude is just not himself, for whatever reason.

Yeah, at the end of the day, the season is just dragging on for the players. The standings are probably pretty set it stone, it's gonna be Tampa, (Galactic wins no matter what ). I full expect this team to look drastically different game 1 of the playoffs. To me at least, it was shocking to see them last year, just a different level of compete.
I love the guy, but Benoit doesn't seem to be the bottom pairing guy we need. I like what I've seen from Myers, give the kid a shot. |

so far, yes
I wanted the leafs to make the moves they did (C/D), but did not have either of Laughton or Carlo on my bingo card. so hope it works out

Carlo has been on a steady upwards trend. Regardless you give them some rope...10-15 games at least.
I remember McCabe didn't look very good early on here...Had some big hits but struggled, especially in playoffs. |

I think Carlo is going to settle in VERY nicely. To have him for two more years at less than $4M is just *chefs kiss* Nice cooking by Tre on that one. |

Benoit is entertaining, but he's a trainwreck in his own end.
OEL-Myers should be a permanent thing, because at least Myers can move the puck and can get pucks on net. |
