don't think I've ever heard of someone so passionate about guitars and yet doesn't play. you should give yourself the time to learn, the payoff would be huge imho since you already appreciate the instrument that much. my 2 cents anyway lol.

i agree with you and i don't know why i don't just try it. i've looked at the lessons on youtube and everything. i think i even have some saved and ready to go.

i lack motivation!

The fretboard is just a mere covering, a veneer as it's such a slim topping. As always...it comes down to the strength of foundation. Which is why multi-pieced necks are used (unroasted) and maple is now being roasted because the hardwood properties are always an undisclosed variable.

The box of chocolates...if you will...

- Snots33_77

i see. i always thought you just had to worry about the thickness of the neck and if it was sort of C shaped or whatever (that part's hard to explain. like, how your hand fits around it comfortably or not).

i always thought they mentioned the wood because people preferred different kinds of wood for the fretboard. i thought that was why sometimes the fretboard is light wood and sometimes it's dark wood.

it can look like a lot of work at first, but that's because the learning curve is kinda steep at the beginning, once you start getting some of the basics and start playing rhythm you can have a poopload of fun without getting into super technical stuff. at least that's where I'm at lol..

no no, i just need to absorb it all.

i don't understand a lot of it because i have no reference point. i've never used any of the concepts in practice. so i might write some down and go back to it when i can.

my advice is give yourself a specific timeframe, let's say 3 or 6 months, practice regularly, and see where it brings you.

after a few weeks you just might be pleasantly surprised about the progress you're making, and the motivation will be there way more easily at that point.

and then once i know basic chords i can actually make real music instead of just bleeps and blips like i do when i pick it up now. i just make patterns of sounds like a kid sitting at a piano.

well it's nice to improvise poop and do whatever you feel like, but knowing the basic chords and some rythm picking does give you structure.

personally I started with Nirvana, once I started playing power chords I didn't want to stop lol... I never really got into solos but did enjoy learning a bit more "complex" and fast rythms from punk and metal bands.

oh I'm 99% of the time playing with my Norman acoustic guitar in my apartment... I plan on buying a house in a not-so-distant future and when I get there I'll definitely switch back to electric.

I've been playing Bad Religion and poop like that with my acoustic all this time so when I make the switch it's gonna feel so easy
