that's the thing though, you're gonna feel at first that you won't ever be able to do that poop, but it's just a matter of time. I don't know what your skill level is but I am 100% convinced you could learn how to play Smells Like Teen Spirit in a reasonable timeframe.

oh I'm 99% of the time playing with my Norman acoustic guitar in my apartment... I plan on buying a house in a not-so-distant future and when I get there I'll definitely switch back to electric.

I've been playing Bad Religion and poop like that with my acoustic all this time so when I make the switch it's gonna feel so easy

yeah, I just might buy a new electric one and play with headphones in the meantime, it won't replace my craving for jamming with an amp but it might suffice if I get some very high-end headphones, so that it doesn't sound like poop.

in terms of a guitar I'm confident I'll easily find something I like, but for headphones I don't know the brands well enough and would like something versatile so that I can use them for both heavy metal riffs or just smooth acoustic playing.

Search for open-backed headphones. Better for the recording process and really hearing your true tone.

Closed headphones are best for already mixed and mastered music.
