They should leave the bottom 6 just like tonight.
McMann, Domi, Bobby work hard together like they have something to prove.
Lorentz, Laughton, Jarnkrok seemed to gel quickly tonight and they all grind like they have something to prove...same as the 3rd line. I would like to see them get even more comfortable and would lay a bet right now that they would be a fuking killer 4th line come play off time.
The D,
McC/Tanev combo is sooo solid, great pairing and coach can trust them against any teams' top line.
Carlo is settling nicely but should be playing with OEL as the 2nd pairing. The top 4 would be hardcore for the first time in a long time with those 4 tight and comfortable.
Give Rielly a "break" and put him on the 3rd pairing with Myers, until my boi Hawktuah sneaks back in for the playoffs ...realistically I would rather Benoit/Myers or Hawktuah, but kinda hoping Rielly finds his offensive game in the playoffs...while playing 3rd pairing.
Smart D line up:
McC, Tanev
OEL, Carlo
Rielly, Myers/Hakanpaa
The forwards could be really hard to coach against if...
Berube starts smacking the poop out of the top 6 to step up and play like tonight all the time.....because really they need a to take it up even a couple more notches for a full 60 minutes and every GD night if they even stand a chance at the Cup.
Fuk the at least have a "good run" narrative. Cup or bust. Get to work Leafs.

The Leafs are 39-24-3 for 81 points. They are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games.
The Panthers are 41-24-3 for 85 points (2 more games played). They are 7-3-0 in their last ten games.
The Lightning are 38-23-5 for 85 points - same number of games as the Leafs. They are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games.
Maybe what the team needs most is for the fans to quit whining and panicking after every single loss.

It's getting warmer here and I'm exploring Japanese and Scandinavian fishing products which are excellent and freely traded among the allied nations.
Unfortunately I killed myself when the Leafs lost a couple regular season games so I'm ghost-posting.

Is the Hair of the Dog song a rare example of a cover being better than the original? - Hatboro_Swords
I don't think that's all that rare - think Hey Joe, Sweet Jane, The Man Who Sold The World...
Although which bands are capable of making a song their own with a cover and which songs are impossible to steal from their originators is an interesting discussion.
The worst cover of all time imo is Puddle of Mudd covering About A Girl. You should not listen to it, unless you want to have a painful experience. You can't even imagine how bad it is.

The fact that Matthews bobbled the puck on that goal, giving everyone an extra beat to prepare for his play and he still roofed it was a classic chocolatey taster from AM.

Fun stat: we only had three shots on net in the third period. - Atomic Wedgie
Shots were 13-3, but they only managed 3 HD chances. For the most part the defense was keeping them to the outside and doing a better job than they often do when they play "shut down hockey". I'm under no illusions that they've turned a corner in this regard. Against a better team - or with a smaller lead, I don't think they know how to shut it down that effectively - a lot of this year's success in close games has been due to superior goaltending.

Is Patches dead? Holmberg should not be in the top-6 - he sucks. Jarnkrok also shouldn't be in the top-6. I understand that our cap situation probably prohibits movement, but man I'd like to see anything tried at 2LW - Steeves from the Marlies . . . but if they had to, I'd take McMann off the 3rd line and put him up there (they've only had 48 minutes together this year and it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad). Despite the lopsided score, how many golden chances did Holmberg botch and how many opportunities to create plays did he simply not see? When JT and Willy are flying, they don't need the left-side guy bringing down the line.

Whenever the Man Who Sold the World is discussed - I love the Jordis Unga version from that show Rockstar INXS:
I know lots of people prefer the Nirvana version, but for me this version is absolutely perfect.

Tenders were great early on but you can't ignore that the Leafs were one of the best teams at suppressing high danger chances in the first couple of months. Objectively that made life much easier for both goalies.
I'm big on HDCF/HDCA as one of the better value stats. Especially in Berube's system ...he doesn't give a poop about low danger volume (ie. Corsi). He's all about winning the HD creation battle.
Leafs season
Oct+Nov 10.5-8.5 (8.5 was 2nd best in the league) 14-7-2 record
Dec 12.4-10.5 (Matthews is gone) 9-6 record
Jan 10.2-11.2 7-6 record
Feb 10-10 7-1 record
Mar 8.3-9 3-5 record
Looks like Berube is trying to get them tilted back to strong defence/suppression but they haven't figured out how to create offence while doing that like they were doing early in the year.
I'm optimistic that with Carlo and a healthy Tanev/McCabe/Matthews they can keep the HDCA low. The big boys need to figure out how to create and execute while playing that style.

That really is a taster.
I remember seeing Bowie when he toured with Nine Inch Nails, and at that point it felt like him doing an elegy for Cobain when he sang it, very moving.

My prayer to the hockey gods is that the exchange for not having a 60 goal season from Matthews is that his big playoff moments are still to come.

I feel a solid block of Leaf wins coming up, in a big way. Smart money is on Big Blue this week, I've never seen it so clear like I never thought I'd see before .
