I think you need to be 10 handicap and below to see the any difference in wedges imo.
You need some sort of consistency in your game otherwise it’s pointless. - bryant
I think everyone benefits from having wedges that allow them to play from a variety of lies. Not saying higher handicappers are gonna be out there hitting flop shots with T grind vokeys, but having something in the bag specifically for wet/hard sand or tight lies, or something like a K grind for really deep rough or fluffy sand would benefit loads of players.
(assuming people wanna score better) |

When you’re a hacker and slasher like me good quality clubs are a waste of money. If you don’t have a proper swing and make good contact you might as well use cheap equipment. - shack67
At my level, it doesn’t make sense to spend a lot of money on new clubs or lessons.
The money is better spent on beer at the turn. |

Exactly. I think hitting bad shots with expensive clubs would make the game even more frustrating than it already is. |

I'm not really a golfer - or not a golfer. I've been 3 times. But I have a number of friends who go. A few of them definitely spend a lot of money on clubs and all the accessories - but one time a group of them went out with this guy, Tom, and Tom brought with him a wood, a putter and a middle iron. He carried all three in his hand all game, dropping them only to take his shot.
I don't think he was a very good golfer, but his laid back approach seemed to change their attitude quite a bit. They even started an annual game called the Lord Tom classic where you're only allowed 3 clubs of your choice.

Most golfers need to quit golf and start playing pub golf.
Go to 9 different pubs, create a par for each pub (each sip is a stroke).
Good luck finishing the back 9. |

Fun golf story (if you like dark humour):
The only expensive golf thing I have is a Sun Mountain golf bag.
A few years ago, my MIL started developing dementia. At first it wasn’t so bad, she could still function in public - we got her help for groceries, took away her car.
She was still golfing a bit, and spending a month or two in Florida at her boyfriend’s place.
Turns out she was misplacing her golf stuff and replacing it. I discovered a golf store in her basement: two sets of clubs, two additional empty bags, three travel cases, a ton of smaller stuff.
We divvied it up - I got the Sun Mountain bag and a travel case.
Is it wrong I still giggle at this? |

Dementia is rough
Sun Mountain bags are nice. I have one myself (4.5 14 way, black with a red maple leaf). Unfortunate that they're assembled in Montana though.

I am not sure what consists of expensive equipment but good clubs could improve your game significantly even if you are a bad golfer. Mostly the forgiveness. |

GI irons and max woods / drivers seem to have come a long way over the last 5 years or so. |

But if your slice goes 20 or 30 yards further, you're probably getting lower scores. |

Sure are. I am very fond of my tsr2 4 hybrid. Considering getting a 3 to replace my fairway wood because I like it so much. |

I just think you need to get to a certain level of consistency before a club will make a difference for you.

3 wood, 7 iron, SW.
Our club each year has a 4-club tournament (I’ve never played it, but maybe this year).
In the weeks leading up to it, the debate is always whether or not you carry a putter. |

That sounds about right. I would carry the same clubs. I can putt with my wedge no problem so I wouldn’t carry the putter.
I’ve seen guys try to chip their putt with a wedge and it boggles my mind. You can just turn your wedge and hit the center of the ball and it rolls like a putter. |

When I researched before getting clubs is was looking for distance,
But was pleasantly surprised at how much decent clubs reduce you spraying the ball left and right |
