I'm more worried about Steven Seagull roundhouse kicking and aikido flipping all the mothertruckers that get near him.

It's interesting that the number of Russian players in the NHL has crept back up, after having only a handful for years.

Number of skaters (ignoring goalies):

2005-06: 43 (30 playing half season or more)

2009-10: 28 (21)

2014-15: 28 (19)

2019-20: 43 (25)

2024-25: 48 (guesstimate: 37)

I'm guessing a large factor in this is the instability of the KHL.

That and they revamped their entire junior program in 2010 modelled after the USHL.
