God damn - I got new blogged.

From last blog (it took me four hours to compile these stats):

It's interesting that the number of Russian players in the NHL has crept back up, after having only a handful for years.

Number of skaters (ignoring goalies):

2005-06: 43 (30 playing half season or more)

2009-10: 28 (21)

2014-15: 28 (19)

2019-20: 43 (25)

2024-25: 48 (guesstimate: 37)

I'm guessing a large factor in this is the instability of the KHL.

Great success in the KHL followed by a move to the NHL is one of the few remaining ways a young Russian man can avoid being sent to die in the fields of western Ukraine.

If my name was Pavel Meatcubinov, I'd go on a heater, score a ton of goals, come over to the NHL, sign a contract, get a work permit, and keep my ass safe.

This is all speculation of course, but it kinda feels true.

Why does he make it sound like Toronto wasn't considered by all the "experts" as the heavy favorite to win the Canadian division and at least make it to the conference finals?

Just went from fasting all day after bikefishing this morning, then met mz z and ate a meatball and grilled eggplant panini with everything to my face. That is a break fast. That is a sledge hammer to your fast. Sign the marriage license application. You know what that means. Means the Leafs are winning the Cup.

Tonight we will see that all the shameless knobgobbling people are doing on the Avs is premature. They're gonna get blown apart by Nylander's Maple Leafs 6-1. The next time they see a Leaf, they're gonna turn around and run 200 miles in the opposite direction.
