All they do is eat well, sleep, and god damn exercise.

How in the h can they have no energy?

that was the issue before the 4 nations break

because they're not talented enough to play at 80% and win.
to win, they need to play at 110% (like they did in that stretch in December). remember how well they were forechecking? we don't see that anymore.
so yes, they can do that for awhile, but eventually they get tired. The 4 Nations break gave them some jump, but it is obvious that it's now over.
still a good season for a young team.

Working for 15-20 minutes every second or third day, shouldn’t play anyone out.

That’s why I dont buy it, sorry..

Doesn't it apply somewhat to other teams as well? They already brought in Laine and Carrier which is supposed to help. I think the main issue is the injuries otherwise we will be where OTT is now
- habs88888

absolutely. but like I was saying, combine the fact they need to word harder because less talented, and the d system... eventually they run out of energy. imho

then what else Pete? They were dead tired before the 4 nations break, thats pretty much a proven fact by now. And after a nice little run, it seems like they are getting tired once again. Monty never played that many games in his NHL career. Hutson has never played that much period.

you don't have to Pete. I just call what I see. they fail to record 20 SOG...
like you said, is it a lack of motivation? I don't think so.

I've never played professional hockey but I'm pretty sure playing 82 games at that level does take it's toll at some point...

the tank may not be completely empty but for an inexperienced team with limited resources, if they're just a notch below their opponent in terms of energy, it's gonna show.

Also not to mention indiscipline with needless penalties which result in goals

also a sign of fatigue, mental or physical. you take bad decisions, create turnovers, miss the net, make bad passes, take penalties...

a very pleasant surprise indeed. for a moment (somewhere in January) I thought Celibrini would win the Calder, but not anymore. quite a player

perfect example of how the draft is a total gamble

Well don't care who wins the Calder but if we get Pionk from UFA for our top 4D and find a way to trade for McTavish for 2C we are all set for next season

Actually the other teams that are in the mix in the East are feeling the same thing hard to pull a winning streak at this time of the season

Coming out flat all year can only be blamed on lack of preparation.

Coaching

Another thing I’d like to see the staff get better at is intake line adjustments.

bah, the truth is more often than not explained by multiple factors, not just one thing.

even veterans like Anderson, Gallagher and Dvorak haven't looked like themselves lately, I doubt that's all on coaching.

Coaching is part of it along with many things, in fact, Hughes should have hired his look alike brother Jim Montgomery who is also from Montreal instead when he was available, but this is one factor amongst many such as goaltending, defense, no 2nd line etc

yeah I disagree, would've been a silly move to fire MSL at that point lol... and that's assuming Montgomery actually wanted to coach in Montreal.

We can agree to disagree but Montgomery came out and said he thank Hughes for helping him in the past so there may be some interest there. Also look at his track record in Boston and with the Blues

We are approaching the good days, we have superstar D in Hutson, potential superstar in Demidov, checking the boxes looking around to a team like Colorado with Makar and McKinnon who also has strong 2C and top 4D
