Seravalli is reporting that there was a verbal altercation between Torts and York that led to York being benched last night. Very confusing. Why would he be punished for reacting exactly how the Tortorella has stated he wants players to react? Highlights how confused players were about what the coach wanted from them. |

Seravalli also saying that the Flyers should give consideration to Ian Lapperiere and that fans would be behind it.

Frank Seravalli: I think they should give a real long look to Ian Laperriere, who’s been coaching their minor league team in Lehigh Valley for the last couple of years. But I think he’s got the perfect temperament for what this team needs. He’s a well-established voice and name in the Philadelphia market. He’s someone that fans would get behind, and if you’re planning on having a few rough years, have someone that’s gonna drag some compete out of your team and is familiar with the development process because he’s been doing that in the AHL with the Phantoms. I think he’s earned the opportunity, and I’d love to see him get a look.[url] |

Yeah, I've seen that from a few people. He doesn't appeal to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if Lappy gets the job. I don't think most fans would be thrilled with Lappy as coach either. |

Yes, because up until this season, Laperriere's teams have missed out or barely squeaked into the playoffs in a division where 6 of the 8 teams make the playoffs.
This organization talks about culture constantly. If they were truly serious about it, they would start weeding all of the losers out of the organization, and not replace them with other losers just because they were a footnote in Flyers history. |

I agree. I think they need a completely new voice, one not influenced by the old days or whatever is perceived as Flyers way, or Flyers culture, or Flyers type play. We have 50 years of proof that it doesn't work any more.

They didn't just go thru all the trouble of rebuilding the "Flyers culture" to just hand the keys over to somebody's who could go off script and throw all that away tho, right?

Luke Richardson's out there too. He checks a lot of the usual boxes, along with the development side of things from his work in the Sens' system.
I have a feeling Shaw keeps the job tho. |

I would say because York probably said something that crossed the line. Push back is not the same as name calling or insulting.

The new HC is going to have to develop the young roster and be a contender by year 2. Quite the needle to thread.
I would be shocked If Shaw or Lappy gets the job. |

Great point about the new coach. The Flyers org is too impatient and will want to see some type of positive results during the rebuild so they keep selling tickets. I don't know much about Shaw other than what he has done here. Loved Lappy the player but don't want him coaching this team. Although if Lappy does get the gig, it will provide lots of entertainment on this board!

Agreed, look I have no idea if Lappy is a good coach. He hasnt done anything in the AHL that makes me think hes a good coach but the Flyers havent been flooded with talent either.
I dont know enough about Shaw either. I know he works with the D and I like what hes done with the D. Many of our D have improved under Shaw. Id like to keep him there. Rocky can go though

The regime has stated repeatedly the team needs to be a contender by the '26-'27 season. It's coming up very quickly. Even before the Torts blow up, made little sense to bring him back next year. Since he was never going to be the HC when the team would be competitive, made a lot more sense to get the new HC in now to get his system totally installed and played for an entire season before the team is "going to be a contender". The HC profile that makes the most sense is to hire an AHL HC who has a proven track record of success. Lappy does not have the resume.
Alex Appleyard suggested the following AHL head coaches who could be on a track to the NHL. He mentioned Cam Abbott- Chicago, Michael Leone- Rochester, Kirk MacDonald- Scranton/WB. Interesting, that MacDonald was with the Reading Royals for many years, so technically he was already in the Flyers organization. |

Thanks for the info about the AHL coaches. I follow the Phantoms occasionally but have no clue about the other teams, coaches, etc. Not a Torts hater but my main concern has been Michkov. I wanted Torts gone bc I've been worried MM would want to be out of here bc of Torts' approach about blocking shots, etc.

I would widen that list to include any player on the roster under the age of 25. Most of these guys have only had Torts as their HC in the NHL. Torts gets credit for players that were younger when he was the HC and after he leaves have career years. Also, he gets credit for players who have career years when he is HC. I guess AV does not credit for the evolution of TK and Sanheim, or does he? In this media market, Torts got credit for both avenues of a players success. It was almost like the local media just did not want the old man yelling at them in public, so let's just pacify him an pat him on the head. So glad the circus is officially over soon. If Shaw stays or goes, not that concerned. He cannot be the HC.
